Hybrizon buccatus (de Brebisson, 1825) is newly recorded from Iran, as the first member of the subfamily Hybrizontinae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae). This species has been collected from different locations in Northern Iran. Diagnostic characters and geographical distribution of the species are briefly discussed. The species known from the Palaearctic and Oriental regions are keyed. Keywords Ichneumonidae, Hybrizon flavofacialis, Hybrizon ghilarovi, Lasius fuyi, Oriental, China, Hunan, koinobiont endoparasitoids, ant larvae, key Introduction The small subfamily Hybrizoninae Blanchard, 1845 (= Paxylommatinae Foerster, 1862, Hybrizontinae of authors, “Hybrizonites” of Blanchard, 1845; Wharton and van Achterberg 2000) is associated with ants and most likely belongs to the family Ichneumonidae, but was often associated with Braconidae (van Achterberg 1976) or considered to be a separate family (He 1981, Tobias 1988). Identification key to the subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera) Gavin Broad Dept. of Entomology, The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, UK Notes on the key, February 2011 This key to ichneumonid subfamilies should be regarded as a test version and feedback will be much appreciated (emails to [email protected]). Many of the illustrations are provisional and more characters need to be illustrated, which is a work in progress. Many of the scanning electron micrographs were taken by Sondra Ward for Ian Gauld’s series of volumes on the Ichneumonidae of Costa Rica. Many of the line drawings are by Mike Fitton. I am grateful to Pelle Magnusson for the photographs of Brachycyrtus ornatus and for his suggestion as to where to include this subfamily in the key. Other illustrations are my own work. Morphological terminology mostly follows Fitton et al. (1988). A comprehensively illustrated list of morphological terms employed here is in development. In lateral views, the anterior (head) end of the wasp is to the left and in dorsal or ventral images, the anterior (head) end is uppermost. There are a few exceptions (indicated in figure legends) and these will rectified soon. Identifying ichneumonids Identifying ichneumonids can be a daunting process, with about 2,400 species in Britain and Ireland. These are currently classified into 32 subfamilies (there are a few more extralimitally). Rather few of these subfamilies are reconisable on the basis of simple morphological character states, rather, they tend to be reconisable on combinations of characters that occur convergently and in different permutations across various groups of ichneumonids. -

REVISION OF THE TWO-WINGED FLIES OF THE FAMILY CLUSIIDAE. By A. L. Melander and Naomi George Argo, Of the State College of Washington, Pullman. The family Clusiidae, sometimes called the Heteroneuridae or the Clusiodidae, is generally regarded as one of the rarer groups of the Diptera. Seldom are its members met with in more than solitary individuals. In our experience in collecting a hundred thousand specimens of Diptera but a few dozen representatives of Clusiidae have been encountered. Previously there have been described from the entire world 13 valid genera and 55 species. Aldrich's Catalogue in 1905 listed but 2 genera and 12 species as known from North America. The sub- sequent publications of Johnson and Malloch have added 11 recog- nized new species to the American list. Fifteen species have been described from Europe and the same number from South America, while four species have been recorded from the islands south of Asia. The material secured for the present study, amounting to some 400 specimens, has produced 52 species, of which 25 are new. With the extension in distribution of species originally described from Europe or South America there are now known to occur in North America, including Central America, a total of 58 species belonging to 7 genera. Thus in its present status the family includes 80 recognized species distributed among 13 genera. The Clusiidae are restricted in their distribution to Europe, North and South America, and the East Indies. No species have been described from Africa, Australia, or Asia, but there is mention by Lefroy of the occurrence of an undetermined species in India. -

Holland Landing Prairie Provincial Park
HOLLAND LANDING PRAIRIE PROVINCIAL PARK One Malaise trap was deployed at Holland Landing Prairie Provincial Park in 2014 (44.11894, -79.48795, 271m ASL; Figure 1). This trap collected arthropods for twenty weeks from May 1 – September 22, 2014. All 10 Malaise trap samples were processed using the bulk sample analysis protocol. A total of 2345 BINs were obtained. Over half the BINs captured were flies (Diptera), followed by bees, ants and wasps (Hymenoptera), moths and butterflies (Lepidoptera), and true bugs (Hemiptera; Figure 2). In total, 544 arthropod species were named, representing 26.1% of the BINs from the site (Appendix 1). All the BINs were assigned at least to family, and 60.5% were assigned to a genus Figure 1.
