PRESS RELEASE – OCTOBER 5, 2018 Chloé Dindault named 2019 Siebel Scholars Winner Chloé Dindault, PhD candidate at the Ile-de-France Photovoltaic Institute (IPVF) and affiliated with the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films (LPICM, École Polytechnique/CNRS) is named one of the 2019 recipients of the prestigious Siebel Scholars awards. Established in 2000, the Siebel Scholars program annually recognizes nearly 100 exceptional students from the world’s leading graduate schools of business, computer science, energy science, and bioengineering. The pro- gram has awarded over 1,300 scholars, researchers, and entrepreneurs. This net- work of leaders brings together diverse perspectives from business, science, and engineering to influence the technologies, policies, and economic and social deci- sions that shape the future. © J. Barande - École Polytechnique Material Scientist, specialized in Photovoltaics, Chloé Dindault’s research focuses on energy sci- ence and the manufacturing processes for new solar panel materials. After graduating from the LUMOMAT Master (University of Nantes and University of Angers), Chloé joined the Ile-de- France Photovoltaic Institute (IPVF) and the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films (LPICM - École Polytechnique / CNRS) in October 2016 for her CIFRE thesis under the supervi- sion of Denis Tondelier, Research Engineer at the LPICM. For École Polytechnique, this is the first time that a woman is a recipient of a Siebel Scholar award. For Chloé Dindault, “this is an incredible opportunity, considering my rather atypical academic background, to be able to join such a prestigious network as that of Siebel Scholar.” About Siebel Scholars The Siebel Scholars program was founded in 2000 by the Siebel Foundation to recognize the most talented students at the world’s leading graduate schools of business, computer science, bioengineering, and energy science. These include: École Polytechnique; Carnegie Mellon Uni- versity; Harvard University; Johns Hopkins University; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Northwestern University; Politecnico di Torino; Princeton University; Stanford University; Tsinghua University; University of California, Berkeley; University of California, San Diego; University of Chicago; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; University of Pennsylvania; and University of Tokyo. Today, our active community of over 1,300 leaders serves as advisors to the Siebel Foundation and works collaboratively to find solutions to soci- ety’s most pressing problems. Its various undergrad- uate and graduate-level programs – Bachelor of Science, Ingénieur Polytechnicien (Master’s level program), Master’s, and PhD – are highly selective and promote a culture of excellence with a strong emphasis on science, anchored in humanist traditions. As a widely internationalized university, École Polytechnique offers a variety of international pro- grams and attracts a growing number of foreign students and researchers from around the globe (currently 36% of students and 39% of faculty members). École Polytechnique offers an exceptional education to prepare bright men and women to excel in top-level key positions and lead complex and innovative projects which meet the challenges of 21st century society, all while main- taining a keen sense of their civil and social responsibilities. With its 22 laboratories, 21 of which are joint research units with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), the École Polytechnique Research Center explores the frontiers of interdisciplinary knowledge to provide major contributions to science, technology, and society. École Poly- technique is also a pioneer and leading institution of the major scientific and economic cluster, Paris-Saclay, bringing together top French higher education and research institutions, as well as R&D centers of prominent international com- panies. www.polytechnique.edu ABOUT THE ILE-DE-FRANCE PHOTOVOLTAIC INSTITUTE (IPVF) / Based on an industrial-academic partnership at the initia- tive of EDF and Total, the CNRS and École Polytechnique, associated with Air Liquide, Horiba Jobin Yvon and Riber, IPVF (Institut Photovoltaïque d’Ile-de-France) is one of nine French institutes dedicated to energy transition. It aims to bring together research efforts around Photovoltaics in the Paris area, to improve the performance and competitiveness of photovoltaic cells and to develop new breakthrough technologies. IPVF acts on three levers: a research program, an experimental platform and a training program. The start-up budget of IPVF is € 150 million. This project has been supported by the French Government in the frame of the program of investment for the future (Programme d’Investissement d’Avenir – ANR-IEED-002-01). The Institute brings together nearly 200 researchers. www.ipvf.fr ABOUT THE CNRS / The French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) is Europe's largest public research institu- tion. It produces knowledge for the benefit of society. With 31,612 employees, a budget exceeding 3.5 billion euros in 2017 (including a self-generated income of 787 million euros), the CNRS is present in all scientific fields through its 1100 laboratories in France and around the world. The organization has international visibility thanks to eight offices abroad, which could become hubs for French research. It has developed international cooperation tools with its foreign part- ners, including 183 International Associated Laboratories (LIA) and 36 International Joint Units (UMI), which are real joint laboratories. Moreover, the CNRS is a partner of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in 26 joint units with a French research institute abroad (UMIFRE). With 21 Nobel laureates and 12 Fields Medal winners, the organization has a long tradition of excellence. It carries out research in mathematics, physics, information sciences and technologies, nuclear and particle physics, Earth sciences and astronomy, chemistry, biological sciences, the humanities and social sciences, engineering and the environment. www.cnrs.fr .
