Amen. Please remember in your prayers this week: Mission Prayer: Our mission prayer for May is for Christian Aid as it works to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty. We also pray for its work for Climate Justice as it seeks to help those struggling as a result of the effects of climate change. Praying and Fasting for Climate Justice on the First Day of Each Month The St Peter’s “Climate Justice” prayer group will meet in church on Tuesday, 1st June, in a socially distanced circle by the chancel steps, to pray for those around God’s world whose lives are being wrecked by bereavement, loss of homes and livelihood, all caused by the destructive effects of climate change: flooding, drought, uncontrollable fires, cyclones, tsunami, and rising sea levels. We will pray for the people of Gujarat, Kerala and Goa on the North West Coasts of India, hit on 16th May by Tropical Storm Tauktae with storm force winds, tidal waves and torrential rain, killing 20 people and forcing 200,000 to leave their homes, many of which have been destroyed. All this is happening as they have to cope also with the massive effect of the Coronavirus throughout India. We’ll pray also for the people of The Cook Islands in the Pacific whose homes and businesses are threatened by rising sea levels; and also the indigenous people of the Amazon forests in Brazil and in Mexico whose ways of living are being destroyed as trees are felled on a massive scale to grow crops for export. Let’s not forget the people of East Timor in Indonesia who, on 4th April, were hit by Cyclone Seroja with flooding killing at least 100 people, with many more missing and 7000 having to be evacuated. We’ll continue to pray for the 18,000 people around Sydney in New South Wales in Australia who on 21st March had to be evacuated as torrential rain caused severe flooding overwhelming and even destroying their homes. Tea production in Kenya is being threatened by rising temperatures, resulting in the possible loss of livelihood of thousands of small scale farmers. Come and tell us about people you may have heard about in the news whose lives have been badly affected by severe weather conditions, so we can pray for them. The Coronavirus pandemic continues to dominate the news around the world, so we may not hear about many who are suffering from the effects of flooding and drought, especially in Africa. We will thank God that companies like Sainsburys and Asda have told the Brazilian Government they will no longer import millions of pounds worth of Bra- zilian goods if they continue to destroy the Amazon rain forest. As always, we will hold up to God our national and international leaders who can make decisions to reduce the human causes of climate change, especially those planning at this critical time for the international Glasgow Climate Change Summit in November. Pray, too, that you will be guided by God to do all you can to care for the wonderful gift of creation; and help to reduce the human causes of global warming. In our prayer meeting on 1st May, £130.00 was donated to Christian Aid who support people around the world whose lives, homes and businesses are threatened by climate change. If you would like to bring a photo of yourself (current or at any stage of your life) to the All Age Service at 10am on Sunday 6th June, they will be used in the service and displayed at the back of the church by the font. Many thanks, Revds Sally and Pat. BAPTISM & CONFIRMATION: Some people have indicated a wish to be Baptised & Confirmed, and we are in the process of arranging a Deanery Confirmation Service… If you would like to know more, or would like to be baptised & confirmed, adult or young person, or would just like an opportunity to explore and refresh your faith, please be in touch with Revd Mike. CHURCHES COUNT ON NATURE 5th - 13th June 2021 Caring for God's Acre, a charity which supports the conservation of burial grounds and graveyards are promoting 'Churches Count on Nature' week from 5th to 13th June and both St Peter's and St Mary's are participating in this. We are inviting people of all ages to come into our churchyards and see and record what they can find, i.e. birds, flowers, leaves, insects and lichen. This information will be recorded on the National Biodiversity Database. Jenny and her team have done so much to improve St Peter's Churchyard, so please encourage your friends and families to join us.
