CITY OF GRANTS PASS receives Esri Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award

Esri celebrated more than 170 organizations during the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Awards ceremony held in July at the 2014 Esri International User Conference (UC) in San Diego, . The SAG Awards highlight users that have shown vision, leadership, hard work, and innovation in their use of Esri's geographic information system (GIS) technology. Thousands of SAG Award nominations are submitted by Esri staff every year, then personally reviewed and selected by Esri president .

The City of Grants Pass was chosen as one of the elite winners from more than 300,000 Esri clients worldwide. Wendy Holohan, Gena Vincent and Eric Wade of the City’s Parks and Community Development Department were able to attend the awards ceremony and accept the award on the City’s behalf. Organizations being honored at the Esri UC, the world's largest GIS event with attendees reaching approximately 15,000 people, span countries and industries including agriculture, cartography, climate change, defense and intelligence, economic development, education, government, health and human services, telecommunications, and utilities.

GIS combines computer hardware, software, data, and, most importantly, people to collect, manage, and analyze geographic information. Virtually any information can be linked to a geographic location, helping people see that information as part of a complete picture. With GIS, users can view relationships, processes, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts. Whether they are responding to a natural disaster, growing a business, or sharing information with the public, GIS helps them solve problems and make smart decisions. More than 1 million people worldwide rely on GIS to learn and plan geographically.

"Every day, people and organizations are improving our world and driving change through geospatial technology," said Esri president Jack Dangermond. "We are humbled by their passion and deeply appreciative of their tireless work. It's an honor for us to recognize their efforts and it's something that I personally look forward to every year."
