2017 Winners, Finalists and Semifinalists 5/3/2018 Phaedrus Latin Contest 2017 Winners, Finalists and SemiFinalists Home Login Entry Guidelines Rules Prizes and Deadlines About the Contest Results Contact Us Congratulations to Josiah Meadows who placed first in the Phaedrus Latin Contest for the fourth time! Josiah, a 10thgrader homeschooled in Monroe, GA, won the Phaedrus Latin Composition Contest's $500 firstplace prize for his fable written in hexameter titled "Rex et Pastor" or "The King and the Shepherd." The $300 secondplace prize was awarded to Jeannine Brokaw of Woodinville, an11th grader from Providence Classical Christian School. The $200 thirdplace prize was awarded to Sharon Lin or Flushing, New York, an 11th grader of Townsend Harris High School. Well done students! 24 students were recognized as Finalists and 104 were named SemiFinalists. In all, 198 students competed in the contest from 18 states and 29 schools and home schools. Timothy Griffith, a Fellow of Classical Languages at New Saint Andrews College is the Academic Director of the Phaedrus Latin Composition Contest. The entries were assigned a number to shield any identifying information during each round of judging. Secondyear Latin students at New Saint Andrews participated in the first round of judging. A panel of volunteer Latin teachers around the country helped judge the final round. The compositions were judged based on the student's ability to accurately use Latin vocabulary and grammar, as well as the student's creativity in subject matter and writing style. We commend all students for taking part in this year's contest! It's no small task composing a fable in Latin. We're continually encouraged to see the efforts of so many students! Teacher registration for next year's contest will open September 1, 2016, at www.phaedruslatincontest.org. Below is a list of the winners, as well as the finalists and semifinalists. http://www.phaedruslatincontest.org/results.php 1/6 5/3/2018 Phaedrus Latin Contest 2017 CASH PRIZE WINNERS Josiah Meadows
