’s Solution Genesis 14-16 22 Aug 2021 RECAP:

Week 1

v Obedience often involves sacrifice Week 2

v God forgives v Our lives are a powerful witness

v Love should define us TODAY WE WILL SEE:

1. A mystery man

2. Giving and receiving

3. Consequences to sin

4. Patience required GENESIS 14

• 18 Then king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. 20 And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

• The meaning of the name Melchizedek is “King of Justice.” But since Salem means “peace,” he is also “King of Peace.” 3 We are not told that he had a father or mother or ancestors or beginning or end. He is like the Son of God and will be a priest forever. HEBREWS 5

8Son though he was, He () learned obedience from what he suffered 9 and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him 10 and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek. 2 CORINTHIANS 9:7-11

• 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work….. 2 CORINTHIANS 9:7-11

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

• 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. GENESIS 16

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children*. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar; 2 so she said to Abram, “The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.” Abram agreed to what Sarai said. 3 So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. 4 He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. GENESIS 16

• (CEV) 4 Later, when Hagar knew she was going to have a baby, she became proud and was hateful to Sarai. 5 Then Sarai said to Abram, “It’s all your fault! I gave you my slave woman, but she has been hateful to me ever since she found out she was pregnant. Yo u have done me wrong, and you will have to answer to the LORD for this.” 6 Abram said, “All right! She’s your slave, and you can do what- ever you want with her.” But Sarai began treating Hagar so harshly that she finally ran away. GENESIS 16

• 10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” 11 The angel of the LORD also said to her: “You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery. 12 He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”…. 15 So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael. LESSON’S v There is often a consequence to sin Ø Ismael is a ‘fighter’ with everyone

Ø & Bathsheba LESSON’S v There is often a consequence to sin v We need to wait patiently for God’s promises Ø Abram – 25yrs Ø Joseph – Prophecy to palace Ø David – Anointed young but waited RECAP:

• 1. The significance and privilege of giving • 2. We have a loving High priest – run to, not away from Him. • 3. Consequence to sin

• 4. Wait patiently for God to come through. Psalm 139:1-6 & 17 (NET)

O Lord, you examine me and know me. You know when I sit down and when I get up; even from far away you understand my motives. You carefully observe me when I travel or when I lie down to rest; you are aware of everything I do. Certainly my tongue does not frame a word without you, O Lord, being thoroughly aware of it. You squeeze me in from behind and in front; you place your hand on me. Your knowledge is beyond my comprehension; it is so far beyond me, I am unable to fathom it.

How difficult it is for me to fathom your thoughts about me, O God! How vast is their sum total.
