All vascular plants were enumerated and identified. Importance value index (IVI) was computed to characterize the floristic composition. To capture different aspects of species diversity, we considered five different indices. The mean stem density was 7585 stems per ha. In total 36797 vascular plants representing 348 species belong to 227 genera in 89 families were identified within 5-ha of a coastal hill forest that is comprises 4.2% species, 10.7% genera and 34.7% families of the total taxa found in Peninsular Malaysia. Based on IVI, Agrostistachys longifolia (IVI 1245), Eugeissona tristis (IVI 890), Calophyllum wallichianum (IVI 807), followed by Taenitis blechnoides (IVI 784) were the most dominant species. The most speciose rich families were Rubiaceae having 27 species, followed by Dipterocarpaceae (21 species), Euphorbiaceae (20 species) and Palmae (14 species). According to growth forms, 57% of all species were trees, 13% shrubs, 10% herbs, 9% lianas, 4% palms, 3.5% climbers and 3% ferns.

Digitaria bicornis (Lam.) R. & S., Syst. 2 : 470, 1817 .- Veldkamp, Blumea 21: 25, 30- 32, 1973 . Panicum bicorne Lam., Encycl. 1: 176, 1791. This has not been recorded, to our knowledge, from Micronesia. However , those specimens referred to Digitaria ciliaris (Retz .) Koe!. which have "heteromorphic spikelets", that is, having the pedicelled spikelets much more strongly hairy than the sessile ones, go to D. bicornis according to Veldkamp's recent treatment (1973). A b s t r a c t K e y w o r d s Kilcheruvi (Edaicheruvi) Aiyanar and Mariyamman Sacred Grove (KISG) which belongs to the tropical dry evergreen forest. Geographically, it lies between Tholuthur Aiyanar to Tittakudi (079°04.947' E longitude and 11°24.320' N latitude) in the Cuddalore APG III district and was explored for floristic studies which was reported for the first time in the year 2013-2014. The study indicated that totally, 185 plant species belonging to Biodiversity 158 genera and 58 families from 29 orders were enumerated in this sacred grove and Kilcheruvi (Edaicheruvi) followed by Angiosperm phylogeny Group III classification. The most dominant families found were Fabaceae (24), Apocynaceae (13), Malvaceae (9), Rubiaceae (8), Sacred Grove Convolvulaceae (8) and Rutaceae (8) species. Rich biodiversity is present in the sacred Tropical dry evergreen grove. This has ensured the protection and conservation of the vegetation of the sacred forests grove. Introduction associated with extensive forest cover, most are found in intimate association with at least a small grove of plants.

    Taxonomy and Conservation Status of Pteridophyte Flora of Sri Lanka R.H.G. Ranil and D.K.N.G. Pushpakumara University of Peradeniya Introduction The recorded history of exploration of pteridophytes in Sri Lanka dates back to 1672-1675 when Poul Hermann had collected a few fern specimens which were first described by Linneus (1747) in Flora Zeylanica. The majority of Sri Lankan pteridophytes have been collected in the 19th century during the British period and some of them have been published as catalogues and checklists. However, only Beddome (1863-1883) and Sledge (1950-1954) had conducted systematic studies and contributed significantly to today’s knowledge on taxonomy and diversity of Sri Lankan pteridophytes (Beddome, 1883; Sledge, 1982). Thereafter, Manton (1953) and Manton and Sledge (1954) reported chromosome numbers and some taxonomic issues of selected Sri Lankan Pteridophytes. Recently, Shaffer-Fehre (2006) has edited the volume 15 of the revised handbook to the flora of Ceylon on pteridophyta (Fern and FernAllies). The local involvement of pteridological studies began with Abeywickrama (1956; 1964; 1978), Abeywickrama and Dassanayake (1956); and Abeywickrama and De Fonseka, (1975) with the preparations of checklists of pteridophytes and description of some fern families. Dassanayake (1964), Jayasekara (1996), Jayasekara et al., (1996), Dhanasekera (undated), Fenando (2002), Herat and Rathnayake (2004) and Ranil et al., (2004; 2005; 2006) have also contributed to the present knowledge on Pteridophytes in Sri Lanka. However, only recently, Ranil and co workers initiated a detailed study on biology, ecology and variation of tree ferns (Cyatheaceae) in Kanneliya and Sinharaja MAB reserves combining field and laboratory studies and also taxonomic studies on island-wide Sri Lankan fern flora.

During the study a total of 272 plant species were encountered of which 236 species represented from 201 genera and 69 families were found to be medicinal and used in various systems of medicines, in which 77 are herbs, 41 shrubs, 46 climbers and 72 trees. About 202 species were recorded in Folk medicine, followed by Siddha (153), Ayurveda (140), Unani (50), Tibetian (41), Homeopathy (21) and Modern medicine (4). Three species viz., Cissampelos pareira var. hirsuta, Santalum album and Strychnos nux-vomica are used in all systems of medicines.
