    ANNUAL REPORT : 2019-20 LOWER INDRA CANAL DIVISION, KHARIAR Brief Notes on activities of the Division: Lower Indra Canal Division is at Khariar of Nuapada District and under Administrative control of the Chief Construction Engineer, Lower Indra Irrigation Project, Nuapada, Site Office, Khariar. This Division looks after the works of defunct L.I.Dam Division, Tikhali and defunct L.I.Mechanical Division, Khariar in adition to it’s own works. At present total Head works of the Lower Indra Irrigation Project such as dam, spillway, 3 Nos. of Dykes and canal networks for command area of 12515.31 Ha. are coming under Jurisdiction of this Division. The total CCA of the Project is 29900Ha. All the head works including gate work of the spillway are completed. AERIAL VIEW OF DAM & SPILLWAY H.R OF LEFT MAIN CANAL H.R OF RIGHT MAIN CANAL Total length of canal network under jurisdiction of this Division as per DPR was 237.14Km. to irrigate an ayacut of 12515.31 Ha . Out of this, construction of canal upto157.73km length is completed covering Main canal 2 Nos. 20+8.22=28.22 Km, Distributaries 4 Nos. 35.64 Km, Minors 18 Nos. 37.52Km and Sub-minors 49 Nos. 56.35 Km. Command area under balance length of canals 79.41Km is being taken up through underground pipe line (UGPL) canal system. Out of 12515.31 Ha., 7495.56 Ha. is coming under open canal network & 5019.75 Ha. by UGPL canal network. CAD & WM work for entire ayacut is simultaneously under progress with balance distribution system by UGPL canal network.

The study in Bihar titled “Business Modelling for Livelihoods Value Chain of Beneficiaries under ICRG programme” seeks to develop at least two value chains for livelihood strengthening of beneficiaries of the ICRG programme. These beneficiaries are those linked to the climate resilient work planning that ICRG has completed and to be implemented with funding from MGNERGA. The current study will actively explore links with the JEEVIKA (Bihar Rural Livelihoods Programme) and has been undertaken following discussions with them. JEEVIKA is supporting the study through their networks in the field. The study in Chhattisgarh titled “Impact of MGNERGA assets on Livelihoods of Vulnerable Groups – Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG); Women Headed Households; Disabled; Landless and Forest Right Act Beneficiaries (FRA); in the ICRG districts” seeks to define the impact and reach of MGNREGA to the vulnerable groups.

The study was expected to explore the space available to women and used by them in their individual capacity, as a group engaged in savings and credit, and in the larger socio- economic environment. The research aimed at looking closely at 5-6 voluntary development organisations (VDOs, also known as NGOs) that had a strong micro credit programme for/with women.

    FLUOROSIS AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF PEOPLE IN NUAPADA DISTRICT OF ODISHA, INDIA SUBHASHREE PRADHAN MAY 2013 A MASTER’S RESEARCH PAPER Submitted to the faculty of Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in the Department of International Development, Community and Environment And accepted on the recommendation of Barbara Goldoftas, Chief Instructor ABSTRACT FLUOROSIS AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF PEOPLE IN NUAPADA DISTRICT OF ODISHA, INDIA SUBHASHREE PRADHAN The current study was conducted to figure out the relationship between the socio- economic conditions of respondents and fluorosis in nine fluorosis-identified villages of Nuapada district in Odisha. It was observed that 100 percent of the respondents were affected with various degree of skeletal fluorosis. Fluorosis has deteriorated the respondents’ health, thereby affecting their work productivity, income and quality of life. However, there are variations in the severity of fluorosis according to sex, age, weight, education and income and nutritional status of the respondents. It was observed that the number of fluorosis cases increased steeply with increase in age. The vulnerable age group of fluorosis was 41-50 years. Fluoride impact severity, however, negatively affected the body weight of the respondents. Similarly, in the lower income group and non-educated respondents, fluorosis was more vividly seen. It was interesting to note that educated and aware people were willing to pay for obtaining clean water. According to the respondents, fluorosis prevented them for performing strenuous physical activities such as farming and working as wage laborers. There is an urgency of provision of safe drinking water in the study area.

    1 ! ! ! ! 2 ! ! Nfttbhf!gspn!uif!Fyfdvujwf!Ejsfdups! ! In the year 2019-20 we decided to focus on forest rights and its utilization. Having individual and community rights over the resources provides motivation and induces security. In this year we have facilitated 250 CR and CFR rights, and in the coming year we are working towards scaling the process up in 3000 villages. We have begun facilitating CFR management plans to enhance land use and promote livelihoods. This will help in conserving and maintaining the forests. The conservation of RET species, and watershed development initiatives are an indication. We have also renewed our focus on NTFP collection and trade, and seek to have community rights in this regard in all the tribal districts of Odisha. We initiated and created history with deregulation of Kendu leaves in Kalahandi district that has renewed interest and enhanced income of the villagers. On the sustainable livelihoods front we have demonstrated the power of agro-forestry in Rayagada, Kalahandi, Balangir and Nabarangpur districts. The tribal populations have realized the potential of their ancestral knowledge and are engaged in reviving their traditional organic methods. They have diversified their approach and produce and have started moving away from mono cropping and cash crops. Working with the Odisha Millets Mission, OTELP and the FADP has immensely helped RCDC fulfill its objectives at 3 promoting agricultural livelihoods and ensuring nutrition to the communities it serves. RCDC has since long been combating the fluoride menace in the fluoride affected district of Nuapada in Odisha. Advocacy in this regard has paid off and the State Government has introduced mega pipe water schemes in most of the affected villages.
