GREENS COMMITTEE REPORT by Frank Vallese General Manager Head PGA Professional I would like to take this opportunity to thank Pete Fronczek for his Brian Trout above and beyond service to Cripple Creek. Pete, was Chairman of [email protected] the Greens Committee for the last ten years! Over that time he worked hand in hand with Glen MacDonald to make so many of

Assistant Golf Professional the magnificent changes to our golf course that we are enjoying Ryan Diehl today. I would also like to thank the Greens Committee and the [email protected] Adopt-a-Hole volunteers. It is through their efforts that we are able to maintain our golf course at such a high standard.

Controller Will Mumford [email protected] Moving forward, I would like to introduce you to your new Greens Committee, they are; Jeff Baxter, Richard Corrigan, Mark Decker,

Cynthia Hunsberger, Carolyn Pesce, Tom Pomilla, Harry Steele and Events Coordinator Joe Gemma Dave Wheeler. In addition, this years Adopt-a-Hole representative [email protected] will be Sue Bennett. I would like to thank them for agreeing to

dedicate their time for this important committee. If you have any

Food & Beverage Manager issues or suggestions please let your committee members or Glen Andy Beebe and I know what they are. We welcome input from everyone [email protected] regarding how we can improve our course and your enjoyment on

the course. Membership Coordinator Megan Ellis [email protected] Lastly, a few simple reminders. At this time of the year it is better to replace divots whenever possible. If you can't please use the

sand mix. If you carry, please take a tube of the sand mix with you. Grounds Superintendent Glen MacDonald are right at the club house. Please rake the bunkers. We [email protected] reduce the staff at this time of year so each member needs to do

their share for the enjoyment of all. Please fix your ball marks on

Assistant Grounds Superintendent the greens. If at all possible please fix any additional marks that Mike Cocino were left by others. The grass does not grow in the cold weather so

we need to be more vigilant in maintaining our greens at this time of the year. Page 3

GOLF COMMITTEE REPORT by Kent Sanderson First of all, many thanks to Glen Reid for all he has done to support Cripple Creek golf as he transitions off the Golf Committee following 5 years as Chairman. I have witnessed firsthand Glen’s dedication and perspective in enhancing the Cripple Creek golf experience. Our objective is to continue that effort, so I welcome the members’ feedback on how we can best accomplish that.

On September 14th and 15th, fifty members of Cripple Creek Country Club once again teed it up in support of Operation Seas the Day with the sixth annual 3-Man Challenge Golf Tournament. OSTD brings wounded warriors and their families to our beach community to have a special week of fun, relaxation and recognition for their sacrifices. This year the 50 players along with 10 other non-playing members raised $19,850 for Operation Seas the Day. Congratulations to the winning team of Dave Horton, Matt Piperno, and Dale Voorheis and thanks to the Tournament Committee and everyone involved for a job well done!

After a three year absence, the Cripple Bear trophy has returned to Cripple Creek! On September 10th and 11th, thirty-two Cripple Creek golfers teed it up against golfers from Bear Trap Dunes. Cripple Creek trailed 18-14 following the two-man team matches on Day 1 at Bear Trap Dunes, but rallied in the individual matches on Day 2 at Cripple Creek to claim a 32-1/2 to 31-1/2 point victory! Congratulations and thanks to all who participated.

Two extremely popular golf events remain for 2019-the Cripple Creek Cup on Monday, October 14 and the Fall Member-Member on Saturday, October 19. We look forward to strong participation in both. In addition, the Ladies 9-Holers and Ladies 18-Holers will have their Closing Day events on October 29th and 30th, respectively. It has certainly been a fun and busy year for Cripple Creek golf.

Finally, just a reminder to keep posting your Delaware scores in the handicap system through November 14th per USGA handicap requirements. Also, some golf groups use the handicap “trend” during the off-season, so consult with your group coordinator regarding postings after November 14th. Enjoy the remainder of your 2019 golf season and let’s hope for continued beautiful weather through the next few months! Page 4 Cripple Creek Supports the Warriors

On September 14th and 15th, fifty members of Cripple Creek Country Club once again teed it up in support of Operation Seas the Day.

This was the sixth annual 3-Man Challenge golf tournament. The tournament’s sole purpose is to raise needed donations for this great and unique community initiative. OSTD brings wounded warriors and their families to our beach community to have a special week of fun, relaxation and recognition for their sacrifices.

Cripple Creek truly embraces the charitable foundation’s mission. In addition to the golf tournament, on Saturday September 7th, the club hosted the annual Cripple Creek Classic Car Show to raise monies for the charity.

Speaking on behalf of the Golf Tournament Committee, Don Antonucci said “Cripple Creek is really a special club. When its members get involved with a charitable initiative, they really get involved. Here at the club we have adopted a few charities as our own. The ladies of the club drive an annual fund raising for Breast Cancer. The club also supports the annual Beebe fund drive to end prostate cancer along with the Car Show we try to do our best to help Operation Seas the Day”.

There are many other charitable events throughout the year that the club hosts. This year the 50 players along with 10 other non-playing members raised $19,850 for Operation Seas the Day. Don said “Think about that. It’s unbelievable how generous this membership is.” The total donation was presented to members of the OSTD Board at the Off The Hook restaurant in a Bethany where the post tournament party was hosted.

Don Summerville, member of the Board in his remarks told the gathering “Your efforts are very special. The Board truly appreciates the effort you make each year. Thanks for helping us deliver our mission. A big thank you to the Cripple Creek Community.”

The CCWGA golf season is sadly drawing to a close. Some of our “snowbird” members have already started heading south, we wish them all a safe journey, a pleasant winter and we look forward to seeing you next spring. We still have a few things planned for this month. The Turf Valley trip is October 9-11. Closing Day is October 30th. There will be a FUN, not to be missed event followed by lunch, our closing meeting and year end awards. October 30th is known for mischief so expect the unexpected and as usual Halloween decorations and or dress is always encouraged. The meeting will include a vote on a new Bylaws revision and a brief discussion on possibly condensing the 9-Hole and 18-Hole Ladies Days. Our Wednesday tee times continue through the end of October, after that we will have to make our own tee times. We would appreciate someone volunteering to make those tee times (you do not have to actually play, just make two or three tee times). Remember, just as May brings flowers, November will surely bring men dancing with joy as they will then be able to make tee times on Wednesday morning! We will still be making tee times on Saturday and Monday mornings also.

COME OUT AND PLAY!

CCWGA 9 HOLE by Adele Fronczek Closing day for the 9 Hole Ladies Group will be October 29th. At this time, we will have our final meeting of the year and prizes will be awarded for most improved, most ringers and most birdies. We will also elect a new President.

It has been a great season. This year's activities included: two 9 Holers Twilights - Spring and Fall. We hosted the King's Creek 9 Hole Ladies Group and the Plantation Lakes Ladies Golf Group. Many commented on how beautiful our golf course is.

During our Spring and Fall aeration weeks we enjoyed playing at Lighthouse Sound, thank you to Ryan for setting this up.

If you need more information about the 9 Holers Group, please contact Adele Fronczek - [email protected]

Looking forward to seeing you all next year! Page 7
