NAMIBIA

“The Wild Kaokoland”

THIS IS A DRAFT ITINERARY PREPARED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS SITE: IT IS THE FIRST STEP FROM WHICH TO CREATE A TAILOR-MADE TRIP TO MEET THE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF EACH CUSTOMER.

A MORE SPECIFIC DRAFT CAN BE DRAFTED AND SENT UPON REQUEST.

ACCOMMODATIONS, DURATION OF THE TRIP, EXTENSIONS AND COMBINATIONS WITH OTHER PLACES (WITHIN THE SAME COUNTRY OR IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES) CAN BE DETERMINED TOGETHER WITH KALAHARI AND MODIFIED ACCORDING TO YOUR DESIRES.

Itineraries in may seem very similar because the circular tour is essential. What makes the difference is the accommodation selected. This means that the accommodation does not necessarily require to be the most expensive. Most of the times, some lower priced ones are positioned in strategic places. The choice is also determined by the number of days to be spent in each place, depending on the configuration of the group of your family or friends.

DRAFT ITINERARY

Day 1 WINDHOEK You will arrive at Windhoek airport. Accommodation at a hotel. Pick-up of the rented vehicle.

Day 2 & 3 THE DESERT Departure with own vehicle to the mountain range that crosses Namibia longitudinally. Accommodation on the edge of the Namib Desert. The next day is spent moving around Sossusvlei: walking among the red dunes and visiting the Sesriem Canyon. Always on your own with own vehicle.

Day 4 & 5 THE COAST You will depart in morning to drive along the great desert, crossing the beautiful area of the canyon to arrive to the Moon Valley and Swakopmund. A wonderful day spent among colours of different environments differing from each other, red sand, purple rocks, deep canyons.

You will arrive easily at the selected hotel in Walvis Bay or Swakopmund.

The following day is free to visit the city, the lagoon, and to choose among the excellent seafood restaurants. There are various meeting places to savour freshly caught shrimps and oysters, served directly from the pan with spectacular seafood sauces (Recommended by Kalahari).

One can also arrive in Swakopmund and visit the city. Ever since it started to develop, this city has lost some of its charm.

OPTIONAL EXCRUSIONS Suggested by Kalahari

ON THE COAST: Walvis Bay Cruise: a pleasant cruise in the lagoon of Walvis Bay between dolphins, flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, gulls and seals, which jump right on the boat. Depending on the period, you might also encounter penguins, whales and sea turtles. A good oysters snack is served, accompanied by champagne and small sandwiches. The boat crosses all the lagoon.

Sandwich Harbour: You will continue with the tour with 4x4 vehicle. You will meet with the guides on board the jeeps on a strip of sand on the other side of the bay, where a colony of seals loves sunbathing. You will venture on the exciting gymkhana between the high dunes of champagne colour that fall steeply into the sea. You will arrive very close to Sandwich Harbour. For those who like to walk, you can walk along a beautiful stretch along the coast before returning to Walvis Bay by car. Lunch on the dunes. A full day dedicated to the beautiful wild coast.

Day 6 SKELETON COAST up to You will cross a part of the Skeleton Coast, stop at Cape Cross and visit the 100,000 seals that dive into the waves of the Atlantic. You will proceed to enter the Damarland area, crossing it all until you arrive at the lodge.

You will find yourself in the area of the rock paintings, where once the ‘Sun’ population taught hunting and survival by drawing such scenes on these same rocks. Time for a splendid walk between graffiti and paintings, which can be reached with own vehicle.

Here one can also meet families of the Herero/Himba tribes that live remotely amongst palm trees and white sands.

An excursion in search of the desert elephants with Ranger is included. It is an unforgettable experience to follow their footprints along the dry and sandy river, among the little green oasis where these animals find natural springs to quench their thirst.

Day 7 - 9 KAOKOLAND You will leave from Damaraland to enter the rough expanses of the Kaokoland. You will immediately sense a different kind of Africa, wilder, and more abandoned.

The brilliance of the colours of the north influences the great contrast with all that is left behind. The sand sometimes white and sometimes black, alternates to the remotest oasis of palm trees.

Here the colours acquire light colours: from white to beige to ecru. You are on the route of the desert elephants which cross immense dry and sandy rivers.

This stay must be experienced for the spectacular intention of being away from civilization, and as such, you may also notice some minor imprecisions, which in turn are rewarded by the beautiful excursions.

If you arrive early, it might be convenient to do immediately the half-day excursion, depending from the time of arrival at the lodge.

The choice to dwell in this area is for the environment and for the beautiful excursions in search of the desert elephants where often one can meet many families.

A natural park without barriers. The excursions are conducted in the white desert and sometimes you may arrive up to the bottom of the gorge, to feel the cold breeze of the Skeleton Coast.

Day 10 & 11 Departure with own rented vehicle, by self-drive towards the Etosha National Park. You will arrive at the lodge in the afternoon.

These days will be entirely spent in Etosha. The safaris follow the designated tracks in the areas mostly crossed by the animals. Safaris in full liberty with own vehicle.

The Etosha Park is the area with most animals in Namibia, and the place where it is easy to sight large herds of species such as; antelope, kudu, zebra, wildebeest, gazelles, many elephants, cats and giraffes. Sometimes you may also spot tigers. Safaris are very easy due to the high quantity of animals.

Day 12 DEPARTURE You will return to Windhoek and drop off the vehicle at the airport with full of gasoline.

The beauty of creating a tailor made trip is that of being able to choose the accommodation and to have a direct contact with those who can provide all the information and advice they need to meet your specific requests.

Namibia offers many options, not only with regards to luxury, but also for the great range of places of different character, able to give a more interesting touch to their holiday; private, sporty, exciting, or adventurous.

THE SAME VERSION IS POSSIBLE: - WITH GUIDE or esle - AWAYS BY SELF-DRIVE but selecting lodges with Rangers for the excursions.
