The Uses of Animation 1 1 The Uses of Animation ANIMATION Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion—as in motion pictures in general—is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon. Animators are artists who specialize in the creation of animation. Animation can be recorded with either analogue media, a flip book, motion picture film, video tape,digital media, including formats with animated GIF, Flash animation and digital video. To display animation, a digital camera, computer, or projector are used along with new technologies that are produced. Animation creation methods include the traditional animation creation method and those involving stop motion animation of two and three-dimensional objects, paper cutouts, puppets and clay figures. Images are displayed in a rapid succession, usually 24, 25, 30, or 60 frames per second. THE MOST COMMON USES OF ANIMATION Cartoons The most common use of animation, and perhaps the origin of it, is cartoons. Cartoons appear all the time on television and the cinema and can be used for entertainment, advertising, 2 Aspects of Animation: Steps to Learn Animated Cartoons presentations and many more applications that are only limited by the imagination of the designer. The most important factor about making cartoons on a computer is reusability and flexibility. The system that will actually do the animation needs to be such that all the actions that are going to be performed can be repeated easily, without much fuss from the side of the animator. -
The Ideal Princess, the Perfect Woman
Jones 1 Sara Jones Professor Nichole Bogarosh Women’s Studies Independent Study April 15, 2016 The Ideal Princess, the Perfect Woman The fictional princess character has been portrayed differently throughout many periods within cultures and the narrative has changed tremendously. The folklore model followed generations of repetitive stories that provided lessons, often moral, of do and do not to youth, which gave way to current royal character ideals of beauty, youth and knowledge formed and pedigreed within animation and film narratives. This paper examines current cultural expressions of the princess character contrasting idealized fictional models from mainstream films and other media forms to authentic royal ideals, emphasizing true royal princess models and characteristics versus illusory roles, and consistency of these roles within the ideal princess archetype and ideology despite narrative. For the purpose of this study the focus will be on mainstream film portrayals of Disney princess characters, Star Wars Princess Leia, and actual true royalty—Her Royal Highness, Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, and Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales. The illusionary model of the princess image morphs throughout culture, but changes very little in character narrative. This is especially noticeable in the Disney princess model; when we think of princess we imagine pink, big dresses, crowns, pretty and perfect features, with youth and innocence. By 1934, Walt Disney and his team were beginning to dream the possibility of a feature length animated film into being [The Goddess of Spring, was released on November 3, Jones 2 1934]…he wanted his forthcoming feature film’s narrative to be drawn from…stories he was raised on and with which he knew his audience would be most familiar. -

Children’s television output analysis 2003-2006 Publication date: 2nd October 2007 ©Ofcom Contents • Introduction • Executive summary • Children’s subgenre range • Children’s subgenre range by channel • Children’s subgenre range by daypart: PSB main channels • Appendix ©Ofcom Introduction • This annex is published as a supplement to Section 2 ‘Broadcaster Output’ of Ofcom’s report The future of children’s television programming. • It provides detail on individual channel output by children’s sub-genre for the PSB main channels, the BBC’s dedicated children’s channels, CBBC and CBeebies, and the commercial children’s channels, as well as detail on genre output by day-part for the PSB main channels. (It does not include any children’s output on other commercial generalist non-terrestrial channels, such as GMTV,ABC1, Sky One.) • This output analysis examines the genre range within children’s programming and looks at how this range has changed since 2003. It is based on the BARB Children’s genre classification only and uses the BARB subgenres of Children’s Drama, Factual, Cartoons, Light entertainment/quizzes, Pre-school and Miscellaneous. • It is important to note that the BARB genre classifications have some drawbacks: – All programme output that is targeted at children is not classified as Children’s within BARB. Some shows targeted at younger viewers, either within children’s slots on the PSB main channels or on the dedicated children’s channels are not classified as Children’s. For example, Disney Channel’s That’s so raven is classified in BARB as ‘Entertainment Situation Comedy US’. List Article – Top 3 Best Adult Animated Series On Television For a few decades, cartoons were only for children. Either they were filled with kid-friendly story lines or they were “PC” enough that everyone could enjoy them. What a terrible world... Luckily, something fantastic occurred in the late 80’s: adult animation went mainstream. All of a sudden, it was cool to be in college and watching cartoons. Sometimes the shows were good, other times they were odd and still others were just plain terrible. After 25 years, tons of shows have come and gone, with only a few standing out as the best of the best. Here are my top 3 adult animated series of all time: 3) Family Guy By the late 1990’s when we thought we had seen in all, Seth MacFarlane arrived. After a few years of animating children’s cartoons, Seth brought to the table one of the raunchiest, most terrible and insulting programs we had ever seen. Family Guy is the 3rd best adult cartoon in history. Another record-breaking series from Fox, the show centers on the Griffin family from Rhode Island. Peter (the idiot), Lois (the sane one), Chris (the Peter-in-training), Meg (the ugly one) and baby Stewie (the evil one), along with the family dog, Brian (the pretentious one) spend their days living lives of greed, lust, violence and every other major sin known to man. Every episode is filled with hilarious moments, mainly from the flashback cutaways, which have now become a standard in all animation. -

June 19, 2019 * FCC FACT SHEET Children’s Television Programming Rules; Modernization of Media Regulation Initiative Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking – MB Docket Nos. 18-202 and 17-105 Background: Adopted to implement the Children’s Television Act of 1990, the FCC’s children’s programming rules require commercial and noncommercial broadcast television licensees to serve the educational and informational needs of children through both their overall programming and programming specifically designed to serve such needs (i.e., Core Programming). In 2018, as part of its Modernization of Media Regulation Initiative, the Commission adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking proposing to revise the children’s television programming rules to modify outdated requirements and to give broadcasters greater flexibility in serving the educational and informational needs of children. The Commission noted the vast changes in how children watch video programming and the large increase in children’s educational and information programming available from non-broadcast sources. What the Report and Order Would Do: • Expand the 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. time frame during which Core Programming must be aired to allow broadcast stations to begin airing Core Programming one hour earlier, at 6:00 a.m. • Require that a majority of Core Programming be regularly scheduled weekly programming but permit broadcast stations to air a limited amount of programming that is not regularly scheduled weekly programming, such as educational specials, and have it count as Core Programming. • Require that a majority of Core Programming be at least 30 minutes in length but permit broadcast stations to air a limited amount of short-form programming, including public service announcements (PSAs) and interstitials, and have it count as Core Programming. -
