HUD Group – Environmental, Health & Safety Report 2015 Foreword

We are pleased to present the Environmental, Health & Safety Report of Hongkong United Dockyards Limited of year 2015.

Caring is one of our key values while employees’ health & safety and environmental protection are always our prime concern. This year we put great effort into creating a safety culture in workplace, focused on driving EHS performance within the whole HUD Group.

With the continued support of our parent companies, HUD has been able to reposition the Engineering Division to develop the engineering opportunities available in the non-marine sectors in Kong and we are now seeing good success rates in attracting new work scopes to HUD Engineering. Development plans for the Salvage & Towage Division are being prepared with a number of alternative projects under planning,

We still have many challenges to face in the years to come as we enter new sectors, we are aware that continual improvement to David Murphy Chief Executive Officer environmental protection, occupational health & safety and operational efficiency is imperative to our continued growth in current and into new sectors.

This annual report encompasses the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) performance of the HUD Group. This report gives an overview of the Group’s local business activities, EHS policy and performances during 2015.

It is also intended to give business partners, staff, suppliers, our stakeholders and the general public a better understanding of the Group’s strategies on its EHS management. Further information on HUD Group economic performance could be referred to the integrated report of Pacific Limited and the annual report of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited.

Hongkong United Dockyards Limited (HUD) was officially formed in 1972, from the amalgamation of Hongkong & Whampoa Dock Company and Taikoo Dockyard & Engineering Company, which had a history of service of over 140 years in . The “small boat” fleets of the two yards were combined under the umbrella of the Hongkong Salvage & Towage Company Limited in the same year. In a corporate restructuring in 2002, when Hongkong Salvage & Towage became a division of HUD, HUD was renamed as HUD Group. The company is a leading provider of ship repair, marine waste and harbour towage services in Hong Kong.

Engineering Division Salvage & Towage Division Our Engineering Division provides round-the-clock ship repair Our tug fleet is stationed at Tsuen Wan and consists of 13 tugs, service with a modern floating dock having a lifting capacity of 1 multi-purpose workboat and 1 passenger launch totalling 40,000 tonnes that can hold vessels of up to 300 m x 41.5 m. The 54,000 BHP with an average age of 8.5 years. The fleet floating dock, “United”, is located at HUD headquarter on provides regular towing service within Hong Kong waters as Island. It is supported by well-equipped workshops including well as emergency support and ocean tows in the Asia Pacific steel workshop, machine shop, electrical workshop and all other Region, operating twenty four hours a day and seven days a departments, as well as experienced project engineers and week. We also operate 6 container vessels on behalf of the craftsmen. Assembly of a Tunnel Boring Machine demonstrated our unique advantage in heavy engineering facilities including seawall cranes with heavy lifting gear, spacious steel workshop, auto welding and flame cutting facilities, sufficient numbers of aerial platforms etc.

EHS within the HUD Group forms an integral part of the Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) Division of the company. The QHSE Division reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who reports directly to the Boards of both Swire Pacific and CK Hutchison Holdings for final business strategy decision.

HUD Group – Environmental, Health & Safety Report 2015 Stakeholder Engagement

HUD takes a proactive approach to engaging with stakeholders. We actively cooperate with non-government organization (NGOs) on emission and climate change projects. We also discuss with suppliers on their own EHS policies as well as their sustainability practice. Besides, we work closely with Government as well as Professional & Advisory Committees.

Regular internal meetings with employees are held to ensure that we actively exchange views on EHS issues.

Through these channels, we understand the expectations and comments of our stakeholders and strive to incorporate them into our business strategy.

In providing a safe working environment for our staff, HUD is committed to the principle that business objectives should never be allowed to compromise safety. We also report our status on EHS issues fully and openly to our stakeholders. We are committed to continually improving our performance in all aspects, and have set for ourselves high standards to do more than regulatory requirements.

Our EHS Review Panel, chaired by the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for overseeing our EHS performance and reviewing our EHS Policy regularly. Panel members meet to monitor the Group’s performance in EHS and compliance with EHS policy. It coordinates overall Group policy regarding EHS issues, by monitoring the effectiveness of the Safety Management System, identifying potential areas for improvement, and establishing and reviewing EHS objectives, targets and the overall progress.

Under the EHS Review Panel, members of the Group Safety Committee meet in a bimonthly meeting chaired by the Head of Production to discuss and coordinate the Group policy on work safety. Roles of the Group Safety Committee

2 Review accidents and recommend measures to prevent recurrence 3 Monitor the adequacy and effectiveness of safety training as well as communication within workplace 4 Overview the implementation of health and safety regulations

The Group Safety Committee also acts as a platform for HUD employees and contractors to communicate with management on occupational health and safety issues.

The Group policies and operating procedures are embedded in our code of conduct, which is given to all our staff and contractors. Committed to the protection of our people and the environment, we updated our EHS policy in November 2015. It summarizes aspects including utilizing resources in a sustainable way, minimizing environmental impacts and protecting the health and safety of our workforce.

We also participated in shareholders’ environmental and safety working groups, for example, the Environmental Best Practice Working Group as well as the Health and Safety Committee.

In order to better manage risks that could affect our business, the QHSE Division together with senior management have developed a business continuity plan incorporating various scenarios, likely outcomes and contingencies to ensure that we are prepared for any emergency.

The lost time injury rate (LTIR) of HUD Group decreased by 20.9% as compared with 2014. The decrease has been achieved through enhanced safety awareness of the workforce which was led by line management via different efforts such as management walks, safety performance recognition scheme and the introduction of incident investigation techniques among the workforce. The effort in safety culture development was appreciated although there is still a long way ahead.

Health & Safety Performance

Safety Promotion Day & Safety Quiz Incident Investigation Training

Safety Promotion Day and internal safety quiz were held in 2015 aiming Kelvin TOP-SET Incident Investigation course was held in HUD in early 2015. Our People

Team Challenges

As part of the CMore program, HUD employees have actively participated in various team challenges for overall improvement on resources planning, teamwork, collaboration and competitiveness. The team activities included Time Puzzle Game, Pacific Basin Soccer Game and HK Charity Pedal Kart Grand Prix in which HUD has managed to raise a sum of HK$15,850 as charity to the Association of Round Table.

In 2015 we provided a sponsorship of HK$10,000 to the Vocational Training Centre for “Outstanding Apprentices/ Trainees Award” with the purpose of development of talents among the younger workforce and reinforcement to the apprentices that striving for the best will always be awarded.

Our People

Maritime Awareness Week Training and Competency In November 2015, HUD participated in the Maritime Awareness Week which was co-organized by the HUD believes that our people are the important asset to the Maritime Museum, the HK Shipowners Association and the Maritime Services Training Institute to help Company. Our key to success is to fully utilize the talents, strengths, young people learn more about onshore and offshore career opportunities in the maritime sector. Environmental Performance

In 2015, our group carbon emissions decreased by 5.2% from 32,959 tonnes to 31,239 tonnes. During the Company Vehicles reporting year, marine gas oil was the largest contributor to emissions at 88%. We have been working on 0.16% raising awareness on fuel and emission reduction by using economic speed this year. Environmental Performance

Eco Tour – Tsim Bei Tsui Friends of EcoPark Award An Eco Tour to Ping Shan Heritage Trail and Tsim Bei Tsui was held this year. There were HUD was awarded as “Friends of EcoPark” this year. We will keep encouraging waste well-preserved heritage sites and we could see fishponds, mangrove communities and reduction and material recycling in our daily operation activities. mudflat nourishing a wide variety of animal species like egrets, mudskippers and fiddler crabs.

Earth Hour As a support to the world's largest collective environmental action - Earth Hour, HUD switched off non-essential lightings around workshops on 28th March 2015. This is an annual function maintained for years.
