Conferral List C L A S S O F Acknowledgement of Country Griffith University acknowledges the people who are the traditional custodians of the land, pays respect to Elders, past and present, and extends that respect to other Indigenous Australians. 1 GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY A progressive history Since opening in 1975 with a promise to make education as accessible and egalitarian as possible, Griffith University has evolved into a respected and influential incubator of progressive thought leadership. Today, as the home of more than 55,000 students learning across its five South East Queensland campuses and Digital campus, Griffith has long outgrown its humble roots as a single campus of 451 students to become a comprehensive, research-intensive university ranking in the top 2 per cent of universities worldwide. We’ve always put our students first, teaching progressive degrees focused on sustainability and deeply connected with the Asia-Pacific region. With our core commitment to diversity and inclusion, the highest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population of any Queensland university and a range of admission pathways that value life experience as well as academic achievement, we’re actively making Griffith a place that is proudly dedicated to creating a future for everyone. We’ve never lost sight of our progressive beginnings. Everything we do— from education to research to community involvement—is designed to support our students, graduates and communities and help them navigate the opportunities and challenges of the future. Innovative teaching We have a long history of driving innovation and achievement in higher education through our future-focused degrees that meet the ever-changing needs of students, industry and the community. Since our earliest days, we’ve been breaking new ground by introducing Australian-first degrees in vital fields such as Asian studies, environmental science, biomedical science, environmental engineering, forensic science, aviation, Australian Indigenous arts, photonics and nanoscience, suicide prevention and dental technology. Our faculty boasts four Australian University Teachers of the Year and, since 2012, our teachers have won more Australian Government awards, citations, fellowships and grants than any other university. We are a founding member of Open Universities Australia and, with 20 years’ experience teaching students in the digital space, are one of Australia’s leading providers of online education. Our students graduate with advanced knowledge of their discipline, problem-solving and communication skills, and capacity for teamwork. Their commitment to ethics and social justice and understanding of sustainability and its implications for business, industry and the wider community makes them stand out from the crowd. 2 Research with impact Australia’s fastest growing Our degrees are informed by world-class research.
