The crucial tests facing Europe’s commitment to open society will be how it treats minorities such as Muslims and ensures equal rights for all in a climate of rapidly expanding diversity. The Open Society Institute’s At Home in Europe project is working to address these issues through monitoring and advocacy activities that examine the position of Muslims and other minorities in Europe. One of the project’s key efforts is this series of reports on Muslim communities in the 11 EU cities of Amsterdam, Antwerp, Berlin, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Leicester, London, Marseille, Paris, Rotterdam, and Stockholm. The reports aim to increase understanding of the needs and aspirations of diverse Muslim communities by examining how public policies in selected cities have helped or hindered the political, social, and economic participation of Muslims. By fostering new dialogue and policy initiatives between Muslim communities, local officials, and international policymakers, the At Home in Europe project seeks to improve the participation and inclusion of Muslims in the wider society while enabling them to preserve the cultural, linguistic, and religious practices that are important to their identities. Much of his current research is focused on Russia and its near abroad, with a special interest in nationalist and separatist movements. Leadership is the other side of the coin of loneliness. -Ferdinand Marcos There is no loneliness greater than the loneliness of a failure. -Eric Hoffer “The Lonely Superpower” is the title of Samuel Huntington’s 1999 essay in which he wrote, “The circle of governments who see their interests coinciding with American interests is shrinking. This is manifest, among other ways, in the central lineup among the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council.”1 Nowhere does it manifest more clearly today than in the current P5+1 talks with Iran. The P5+1 group consists of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council—China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States—plus Germany. According to Kayhan Barzegar, who directs the Tehran-based Institute of Middle East Strategic Studies, “The logic of Iran-Russia relations in the P5+1 has so far been based on three strategic principles: implementing diplomacy, removing sanctions, and containing the threat.”2 Barzegar claims that in January, the P5+1 signaled a shift in emphasis away from strategic and weaponization aspects of the Iranian nuclear program—“the Israeli and the Saudi paths...to bring the Iranian nuclear program to zero”—and toward considerations of verification and transparency.3 The three European P5+1 members' reaction to the recent letter to Iran's leaders drafted by Arkansas freshman Senator Tom Cotton was unsurprising if varying in tone.

Leadership is the other side of the coin of loneliness. -Ferdinand Marcos There is no loneliness greater than the loneliness of a failure. -Eric Hoffer “The Lonely Superpower” is the title of Samuel Huntington’s 1999 essay in which he wrote, “The circle of governments who see their interests coinciding with American interests is shrinking. This is manifest, among other ways, in the central lineup among the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council.”1 Nowhere does it manifest more clearly today than in the current P5+1 talks with Iran. The P5+1 group consists of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council—China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States—plus Germany. According to Kayhan Barzegar, who directs the Tehran-based Institute of Middle East Strategic Studies, “The logic of Iran-Russia relations in the P5+1 has so far been based on three strategic principles: implementing diplomacy, removing sanctions, and containing the threat.”2 Barzegar claims that in January, the P5+1 signaled a shift in emphasis away from strategic and weaponization aspects of the Iranian nuclear program—“the Israeli and the Saudi paths...to bring the Iranian nuclear program to zero”—and toward considerations of verification and transparency.3 The three European P5+1 members' reaction to the recent letter to Iran's leaders drafted by Arkansas freshman Senator Tom Cotton was unsurprising if varying in tone.

ASPECTS OF DADA`S RECEPTION SINCE THE LATE 1950S Lecture for the symposium "Representing Dada", September 9, 2006 in the Museum`s Titus 1 Theater, 11 West 53rd Street, New York held in conjunction with the exhibition "Dada ", on view at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (June 18 - September 11,2006) I thank you for your invitation and I am delighted to talk to you in the context of this exhibition, which would also have made sense in Germany. The last one took place in 1994 and presented above all the Dada collection of the Kunsthaus Zürich. (1) When we now examine some aspects of Dada`s reception since the late 1950s, let us focus on two dada exhibitions: 1958 in Düsseldorf and 1977 in Berlin. They were the most important international Dada retrospectives in Germany since the " First International Dada Fair" of the Berlin Dadaists in 192o ( - beside one exhibition in 1966 which showed only documents.(2)) If "Dada. Documents of a Movement "(3) at Düsseldorf stood in the context of Neo-Dada, "Dada in Europe. Documents and Works"(4) was integrated into the larger "Tendencies of the Twenties" project as the 15th exhibition of the European Council in Berlin.(5). As the Cover of the Exhibition Catalogue of the "Tendencies of the Twenties" (1977) (Fig. 1) shows in addition to Dada , sections on Surrealism/New Objectivity, Constructivism and Architecture of the Twenties were also included. It was a very succesfull exhibition, by which Berlin capitalized in particular on the most exciting chapter in its history - the "Roaring Twenties".
