GW3 Development Register 2020 with Words.Xlsx MACKAY ISAAC WHITSUNDAY REGION The Mackay Isaac Whitsunday (MIW) region spans an area of more than 90,000km2, has a permanent regional population of more than 170,000 and contributes more than $22 billion to the national economy. The economy of the MIW region is as diverse as it is wide and has a proven track record as a region for not only growth and prosperity, but also resilience. The Isaac region is home to the Bowen Basin, housing the largest coal mining deposits in Australia. The majority of Queensland's prime coking coal reserves are mined here, including the highest-grade metallurgical coal in the GRP – Mackay, Isaac, Population – Mackay, Greater Whitsunday world. Mackay is the centre of one of Australia's most developed Mining Equipment, Technology and Service Whitsunday Isaac, Whitsunday region spans over (METS) industries aand the Whitsundays is a world-class tourism destination attracting more than a million visitors annually. The MIW region also boasts a strong agribusiness sector and is one of the nation's largest sugar and bio $22.281 Billion 172,523 90,354 km2 commodity producers. PROJECT DEVELOPMENT REGISTER OVERVIEW Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) is the peak independent, economic development organisation for the MIW region. GW3 is strategic and coordinated, focusing on local, national and international networks, and advocates for 2020 MIW PROJECTS DEVELOPMENT REGISTER projects and opportunities from both government and the private sector. GW3 also delivers a range of economic development focused projects to help support and promote prosperity across the broader region. KEY FEATURES Nearly $40 billion in projects listed GW3 undertakes the MIW Project Development Register in order to identify key projects valued at over $1 million earmarked for the region. This data is presented in order to demonstrate the economic strengths of the region and provide interested parties with a better understanding of development activity within the region. Mackay airport is situated centrally in the Mackay statistical district which includes the shires of Mackay City, Mirani, Sarina, Broadsound, Belyando, Nebo, Bowen and Whitsunday, and is a service hub to the Bowen Basin, a large coal mining area in Queensland, as well as for the 143,000 population of the region which is growing at above the national rate. The region includes diverse industry segments of Sugar, Mining, Beef, Grain, Tourism and is developing a service and manufacturing industry for the mining, grain and sugar industries. These industries are very important to the national export economy. Mackay airport is the only airport in the region that still has Air Services Australia facilities including a Control Tower and Aviation Rescue & Fire Fighting Services. Australian Customs, Immigration and Quarantine are also based in Mackay, and are extensively used in shipping roles associated with the adjacent ports of Hay Point and Mackay.     CCIQ SUBMISSION Strong Choices Investment Program CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY QUEENSLAND 15 September 2014 1.0 Introduction and Summary 1.1 The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) welcomes the opportunity to make a submission to the State Government on the Strong Choices Investment Program with respect to preferred infrastructure investment in Queensland. CCIQ is the State’s peak business and employer organisation. We represent the views and issues of over 25,000 businesses across all industry sectors and regions of Queensland. 1.2 CCIQ believes that the State Government will ultimately need to satisfy the Queensland community of the benefit of asset sales and long-term leases across five key areas namely: price, service, budget, balance sheet, and infrastructure. Should benefit be proven across the first four areas, then CCIQ believes the benefit to infrastructure is enormous. 1.3 Infrastructure plays a crucial role in driving business investment, growth and productivity. For businesses to thrive and remain competitive in a global marketplace, it is essential that infrastructure development and addressing current and future bottlenecks is of top priority. An investment in infrastructure represents an investment in the future prosperity of our state and the economy. 1.4 CCIQ often receives feedback from Queensland businesses that existing infrastructure networks are deficient and are not meeting the needs of a growing population and economy. In particular, Queensland’s transport infrastructure requires significant attention and investment in order to achieve the desired outcomes of improved capacity, reliability, efficiency and safety. Other infrastructure networks identified by businesses that require attention include energy and communications.

It's purpose is to outline a plan to address the infrastructure deficit constraining economic growth and service delivery in Queensland, after almost two decades of Labor Government have left the State in a perilous financial state with ballooning debt and the loss of the long held AAA credit rating. This plan and the feedback received will be the basis for policy commitments from an alternative LNP Government at the next State Election.
