At some point you can walk a few kilometers on a gravel path which is on a low dike between two canals. This gravel path starts at a footbridge near a lock (where exactly?) and you have to leave this gravel path at the bridge that is on this photo.

Abbiategrasso

The regional road S 494 from Abbiategrasso to Vigevano is extremely dangerous: narrow and a lot of truck trafﬁc. On the old Ponte di Vigevano there is no space for cyclists and pedestrians. (Just a 30 cm wide space between the balustrade and the crash barrier.) An elegant new bridge is under contruction . . . When will that new bridge open? And will it be accessible for pedestrians?

In the meantime your best option is to travel by train from Abbiategrasso to Vigevano.

Vigevago has a beautiful city centre. Leonardo da Vinci lived here for twenty years and he designed for Vigevano the “perfect market square” and a castle. He also designed ingenious irrigation canals.

Follow the signs of European long distance path E1. Go left, Via Aguzzafame. Go strait on, into a wood. After 150 (?) meter the E1 turns to the right. Here you have the option to ﬁrst visit the small yacht-basin Ayala. Ayala has NO restaurant but it offers a group of picknick tables covered by a roof.
