These two new accolades join a bevy of other awards the 720S has received over the past year . The Mclaren 720S is currently available for purchase, with a starting MRSP of $293,000 The McLaren 720S has added two new titles to its trophy case: on Wednesday, Sept. 19 it was named the Performance Car of the Year by the Automotive Video Association (AVA), and on Friday, Sept. 21 it was announced that it took the crown at MOTOR TREND’s 8th annual World’s Greatest Drag Race (WGDR) – beating out a fierce line up of competitors. Noted as a gamechanger for both its segment and the supercar category as a whole, the 720S has been extensively praised for its blend of extreme performance, crafted luxury and unparalleled driver involvement. “The 720S is a remarkable car that has been wowing both media and customers alike since its launch,” said Tony Joseph, President of McLaren North America. “Though the car debuted over a year and a half ago, the demand remains strong. With its light weight carbon fibre chassis and blistering acceleration, we were thrilled to see the 720S cross the finish line first in MOTOR TREND’s drag race against a line up of serious competitors, along with taking home the 1st place award with a 6-2 winning vote in the Performance Car of the Year Awards by the Automotive Video Association.” World’s Greatest Drag Race is a 12-way race, where contestants are pulled from MOTOR TREND’s Best Driver’s Car annual competition. The McLaren 720S won WGDR with an elapsed time of 10.1 seconds at 141.5 mph over a quarter-mile. A second, half-mile race was also conducted specifically for MOTOR TREND subscribers, in which McLaren also took the crown. MOTOR TREND notes that the “monstrous power” and “light weight body” gave the 720S the edge it needed to beat a fierce line up of competitors. “You look at the McLaren 720S, hear about its technology and all the horsepower under hood, and imagine that it’s pretty fast. But you’d be wrong. It’s way faster than you imagine,” says MOTOR TREND Editor-in-Chief Ed Loh. “This is a supercar that puts last year’s hypercars on the trailer, whimpering, tail between their legs.” MEDIA The Automotive Video Association (AVA), the automotive industry’s newest media organization which makes up the single largest group of YouTube, online video and TV personalities combined— with more than 500 million unique views per year—named the McLaren 720S it’s Performance Car of the Year, noting that the sportiness and fun-to-drive personality of the 720S shone through to beat others in the competition. These two accolades join a long list of awards the 720S has won. In North America alone, McLaren’s single largest market, the 720S has been named Road & Track’s 2018 Performance Car of the Year, was voted an AUTOMOBILE All Star, received a Car and Driver Magazine Editor’s choice, and was named to Robb Report’s Best of Best list for 2018. The McLaren 720S debuted at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show and offers the widest breadth of dynamic capability of any McLaren, from controlled comfort to extreme handling prowess. At the heart of the 720S is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 710hp and 568 lb ft of torque; 0-60mph takes only 2.8 seconds, while 0-124mph is reached in a blistering 7.8 seconds. In addition to its rapid acceleration and top speed of 212mph, the 720S delivers outstanding driver engagement, with a new generation of McLaren’s active chassis system, Proactive Chassis Control II and double the aerodynamic efficiency of its Super Series predecessor.
