City of Iwamizawa 2016 Here at the City of Iwamizawa, Hokkaido, for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, we are opening our doors to Paralympic Games athletes for Pre-Games training.

Characteristics of Iwamizawa Iwamizawa is located in the eastern part of the Ishikari Plains. In the past, it flourished as an important point of transportation for the area and is currently developing as the breadbasket of Japan for such things as rice farming and onions. Locker room 7 Paralympic Games-Related Activities Wheelchair Rugby On Saturday July 12th and Sunday July 13th 2014, the 16th All Japan Wheelchair Rugby League B Championship Preliminaries were held at the Hokkaido University of Education Iwamizawa Campus`s Daisan Gymnasium. Over the 2 days, about 500 people came to watch the games, and one could quite literally hear the rising interest for adaptive sports. Furthermore, in July 2015, the training camp for the Certified Japanese Representative Players was also held at Iwamizawa Campus`s Daisan Gymnasium, as well as the Kitamura Training Centre.

Let`s Try! Adapted Sports in Iwamizawa

On Saturday July 27th 2015, the `Let`s Try! Adapted Sports in Iwamizawa` event was held at the Hokkaido University of Education Iwamizawa Campus. The event allowed participants to experience various sports such as blind soccer, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair curling and boccia, with a total of 800 people ranging from children to the elderly, as well as professional athletes, participating. Many participants voiced such opinions after the event: that they were glad they were able to see, learn about and experience sports they had never heard about before; that they had never heard the term `adapted sports` before but now understood what it really meant; and that they were looking forward to Iwamizawa hosting another such fabulous event.

Hokkaido Greenland Amusement Park If there`s one defining recreational spot in Iwamizawa, this is it. The grounds of the Hokkaido 21st Century Exhibition that was held in 1986 were simply inherited as they were and made into an amusement park.

Boasting such rides as the tallest Ferris wheel in Hokkaido at 85m high and the longest roller coaster `GO-ON` at a total length of 1500m, the park is home to 46 kinds of large-scale attractions. In addition, the park holds fun events such as the annual hero/heroine show and the summertime fireworks show where 5000 firecrackers light up the night sky.

Onsen (hot spring) Facilities (Maple Lodge and Kitamura Onsen) In Iwamizawa, there are two hot spring facilities that have different types of hot spring water. Both accommodate daytrips and overnight stays.。 あ ・Maple Lodge - Water: Sodium hydrogen carbonate cold mineral spring Effective against: chronic dermatitis, neuralgia (nerve pain), sensitivity to the cold, exhaustion, frozen shoulder (stiff, painful shoulders), etc. あ・Kitamura Onsen - Water: High sodium chloride spring (hypertonic neutral hot water spring) Effective against: Neuralgia, joint pain, muscle pain, frozen shoulder, motor paralysis, chronic enteropathy (digestive diseases), chronic gynecopathy (female disorders), chronic dermatitis, etc.

Hyappei Festival Started in 1983 by several willing members as part of a city revitalization project, this festival uses Iwamizawa local specialty rice. Watching participants work together to raise the 200kg pestle and drop it into the colossal special mortar (2.1m diameter, 4t in weight) to pound out the large bag of mochi (sticky rice cake) in the city centre is very exciting. The mochi that is made is distributed to the participants and spectators.

Saika Festival Rose and iris summer festival In Iwamizawa`s rose garden, in addition to being able to appreciate the common and rugosa roses, an outdoor tea ceremony and koto music is also performed. In the city, the dance parade, various street performances and all sorts of other events are held. Here at JA Iwamizawa, to ensure that consumers can comfortably enjoy our products, we endeavor to produce our rice `jonetsubei` at the special standard we established for cultivation and taste. In addition, we carry out cargo collection for all our products and strive to create a land where we can stably supply uniform products. Please give Iwamizawa`s locally produced, nurturing rice a try.

Onions JA Iwamizawa is one of the leading producers within the prefecture. Starting with F1 type, we produce native onions, and from August this year until April of next year we will be shipping long-term to 32 open-air markets and supermarkets throughout the country. While promoting the production and systemization of reduced pesticide use onions, we work toward the establishment of cultivation technology.
