Temple Learning Academy Executive Summary of Governance and Leadership April 2018 The Academy Temple Learning Academy (URN 141883) is an all-through, free school, stand-alone Academy serving Halton Moor and the surrounding community in East Leeds. The Academy opened for Reception-aged pupils in September 2015 and the first Year 7 cohort started in September 2017. The Temple Learning Foundation The Temple Learning Foundation is a single-academy trust, incorporated on 16/12/13, with UID 15820 and Company House number 08816454. The Directors include all the Governors and one of the Co-Principals of Temple Learning Academy. Temple Learning Academy’s Leadership Vision 2017-2020 All-through leadership, exemplified by Co-Principals working side-by-side as equal partners. Academy Leaders who have their own individual areas of responsibility and lead the Academy together as a team. The equal importance of Phase Leadership and All-through Leadership of inclusion. A culture of distributed leadership throughout the entire staff. Leadership that is responsive to the children’s needs and the community’s needs. The Temple Newsam Learning Partnership (TNLP) Co-operative Trust The TNLP Trust is a charitable trust, Charity number 1147456 and Company House number 07323734. The charity provides education and training for children and young people, for the prevention or relief of poverty. The TNLP Trust is a group of schools and partners who are working together for the benefit of the community as a whole. A Cluster Team provides extended services across the local community. The Trust celebrates the unique qualities of each school and partner organisation but also has a shared vision and a common set of values. The Trust aims to develop a community which ensures that pupils and their families are supported across the generations to raise expectations and achievement for all. A Co-operative Trust is independent but agrees to work within a set of internationally agreed values and principles. Temple Learning Academy works very closely with partner schools in the TNLP Trust on common areas of school improvement and resource management. This work is overseen by the TNLP Trust Steering Group – this group includes all the Headteachers of partner schools, who report individually to their Governors. This collaborative work has had a substantial impact on the quality of provision for Temple Learning Academy pupils, covering everything from shared resources and events right through to the fundamental creation of Temple Learning Academy as a free school. The TNLP Trust schools and partners are: Meadowfield Primary, Corpus Christi Catholic Primary, Temple Learning Academy, Corpus Christi Catholic College, Temple Moor High School, Templenewsam Halton Primary, Whitkirk Primary, Colton Primary, Austhorpe Primary, East SILC, Meadowfield Children’s Centre, Templenewsam and Colton Children’s Centre, Leeds YMCA, Leeds City Council Children’s Services, Barnardos and the Co-operative College. Any personnel who work as part of the Cluster Team that leads the work of the TNLP Trust are employees of Temple Moor High School. The work of the Cluster Team is funded through contributions from partner schools, funding from Leeds Local Authority through the East Area Inclusion Partnership and other funding streams available, such as the NHS. The Cluster Team is currently based at Temple Learning Academy. The Red Kite Alliance Temple Learning Academy is a member of the Red Kite Alliance. This provides school improvement and leadership networks and professional training and development opportunities that have a direct impact on the quality of provision for Temple Learning Academy pupils. The Red Kite Alliance is a partnership of Yorkshire schools and institutions, across all phases, primary, secondary and special, from inner city locations to rural contexts, that have come together to share skills, experience, talent and capacity to help improve the learning and achievement of young people across Yorkshire and the Humber. Red Kite Alliance members have a shared moral purpose to work together to improve the learning and achievement of all the young people their schools and to support other schools in the region to do the same. The Red Kite Learning Trust The Governors of Temple Learning Academy are currently in a “due diligence” process with the Red Kite Learning Trust, reviewing all aspects of a proposal for Temple Learning Academy to become part of the Red Kite Learning Trust (a Multi-Academy Trust). The Governors of other schools who are currently in the TNLP Co-operative Trust are also considering such a proposal, and each Governing Board will make a final (separate) decision for their individual school. The Regional Schools Commissioner has agreed in principle to allowing Temple Learning Academy to join the Red Kite Learning Trust. This will further enhance Temple Learning Academy’s development and overall effectiveness, securing a fully sustainable future for all of our pupils and community. The Red Kite Learning Trust was formed with the aim of bringing real benefits to the children and young people in all schools within the multi-academy trust. This is achieved through strong partnerships that have the same values of providing excellence for all through improving the quality of provision for all young people aged three to nineteen.
