La chirivía es un raíz empleada como hortaliza pero con más sabor, vitaminas y minerales que la zanahoria, perteneciente a la familia de las umbelíferas. El origen de la chirivía proviene de Eurasia. Se consideraba un alimento básico como la patata antes de que esta apareci- era. Además, la chirivia es una planta bienal que se cultivada anteriormente en Finlandia.
