We must note that our political democracy can not last unless there lies at the base of it social democracy. What does social democracy mean? It means a way of life which recognizes liberty, equality and fraternity as the principles of life.” – Dr. B.R. Ambedkar In the world the great man first has to be born in the form of the great man and then he has to prove himself the great man by his enriched personality with virtues and by his great capability. According to such a rule of the world Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born in the form of the great man, on 14th April 1891 at Mahu in Madhya Pradesh of India. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, also known as Babasaheb, was an Indian nationalist, jurist, Dalit, political leader, activist, philosopher, thinker, anthropologist, historian, orator, profilic writer, economist, scholar, editor, revolutionary and the revivalist of Buddhism in India. He was also the chief architect of the Indian constitution. Born into a poor untouchable family, Ambedkar spent his whole life fighting against social discrimination, the system of Chaturvarna – the Hindu categorization of human society into four varnas – and the Indian Caste System. The great man Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar‟s active life, glorious personality and great capability these characteristics forever are worthy of writing with the golden letters, in the useful history of the nation India of the entire world and of the universal mankind. He was invited by the Congress government to serve as a first Law Minister after the independence of India on 15th of August in 1947 . On 29th August, 1947 passing one resolution the Constituent Assembly appointed a „Drafting Committee” with the seven members including Dr. Ambedkar for preparing a draft of the Constitution of the independent India. Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar appointed as a “Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee” on 29th of August in 1947 where he drafted the new Constitution of India which was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th of November in 1949. Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated by the people of India very happily to remember his immense contributions for the poor people of India. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar is the father of Indian Constitution who had drafted the Constitution of India. As per UGC letter No. D.O.No. 1-1/2015(Secy), date, Sept-23, 2015 , to celebrate this occasion in a befitting manner, a National Committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Hon‟ble Prime Minister (Shri Narendra Modi), which has recommended that the following activities be undertaken in your esteemed University: i. Seminars be organized in Educational Institutions, on the Preamble of our Constitution. ii. Admission of students belonging to SC/ST in private universities may be encouraged. iii. To increase awareness about the Constitution amongst citizens, particularly children, 26th November be celebrated as „Constitution Day‟ every year, as it was on this day, that the Constitution may be read in schools and colleges. The Preamble' to the Constitution of India The 'preamble' to the Constitution of India is a brief introductory statement that sets out the guiding purpose and principles of the document. The hopes and aspiration of the people as well as the ideals before our nation are described in the preamble in clear cut words. It may be considered as the soul of Constitution. The preamble can be referred to as the preface which highlights the essence of the entire Constitution. It was adopted on 26 November 1949 by the Constituent Assembly and came into effect from 26th January , 1950. These are the opening words of the preamble to the Indian Constitution. “WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens: JUSTICE, social, economic and political; LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation; IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.” Proposed Programmes The programmes that will be organized to celebrate one hundred and twenty fifth Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is as follows – I. Essay Writing Competition on the „Contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Indian Constitution. [To be Organized by Faculty of Science and Engineering (On 2/11/2015 Monday at 03:15pm)] Note: The Winners will be given Certificates along with Books on the Great Saints Dr. B. R. Ambedkar II. Speech Competition on the „Life and Work of the Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Constitution of India‟ [To be Organized by Faculty of Commerce (On 9/11/2015 Monday at 03:15pm)] Note: The Winners will be given Certificates along with Books on the Great Saints Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. III. Cultural Programme on the „Life and Work of the Great Saint” (Drama/Poetry Competition) [To be Organized by Faculty of Arts (On 16/11/2015 Monday at 03:15pm)] Note: The Winners will be given Certificates along with Books on the Great Saints Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. IV. A two days National Seminar on “Indian Constitution and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar‟s work and life.” Day One: [21/11/2015: Saturday ] 1. Lecture on Preamble of Indian Constitution. 2. Lecture on Contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Indian Constitution. 3. Paper Reading by Participants. Day Two:[22/11/2015: Sunday] 1. Lecture on Contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Social Justice and Empowerment. 2. Paper Reading by Participants. [To be Organized by Faculty of Social Science and Education (On 21 & 22/11/2015)] Note: Certificates will be given to the Participants and Paper Presenters. V. Celebration of 26th November as Constitution Day. - Reading of the „Preamble of the Constitution in prayer at Faculties level.
