Client: Rigel Energy, Calgary Alberta Project: Bruce Cogeneration Project Developed and proposed several design alternatives for a 700 MW gas-fired cogeneration plant to be installed at an existing nuclear Services: power plant site. 1990 - 1994 SNC-LAVALIN, Oakville, Ontario, Canada Project: Lakeview Generating Station, Mississauga Task: Design Review Board Services: Overall design and rehabilitation of Units 4 & 3 (350 MW each) Project: Bosnor Projects, Mexico Task: Project Manager Assisted a European-Mexican developer in the evaluation of several "load displacement" projects in Mexico. Initiated the plant conceptual design and selected equipment and systems suitable for each Services: project specific needs. Developed capital, operations and maintenance cost estimates, which were used as basis for projects evaluation and economic analysis.

Project: Kingston District Energy Project, Kingston, Ontario Task: Engineering Manager Provided the client with technical assistance necessary to develop the preliminary design and capital cost estimate of a 150 MW combined cycle cogeneration plant. The plant is to be built as part of a comprehensive district energy system in the city of Kingston, Services: Ontario. Supervised and completed the heat load marketing survey for the subject city. The purpose of the survey was to establish the potential magnitude and location of thermal loads suitable for district heating and cooling in the down town and surrounding areas.

Project: TP Projects (Confidential) Task: Project Manager Headed a team of senior engineers and professional estimators to carry out a due diligence exercise for two cogeneration projects. Project "A" is 120 MW combined cycle cogeneration plant with a condensing steam turbine. Project "B" is 105 MW combined cycle Services: cogeneration plant with a backpressure steam turbine and a 110,000 lb/hr bark boiler. Project: Ministry of Energy Study, Toronto, Ontario Task: Study Director Directed a study which discussed the principal power production technologies and investigated the environmental approvals and impacts of non-utility power generation (NUG) projects in Ontario. The study was initiated by the Ontario Ministry of Energy and aimed at developing a reference handbook of atmospheric emissions for several power production technologies and to depict the environmental benefits of gas-fired power plants compared to Services: conventional coal-fired or other fuel-fired plants. This reference document is intended to be used to provide information ranging from the environmental regulatory process in Ontario as it relates to NUG developers, atmospheric emissions of several utility and non-utility power production technologies and technology selection. The study was concluded in a report and several hundred copies of this report were published by the Ministry in Ontario.

Project: Cardinal Power Project, Cardinal, Ontario Task: Project Manager Responsible for directing a team of senior engineers and all the project management activities including schedule, manhour and cost controls. The task was to provide the client with technical assistance Services: to establish the preliminary design of the electrical single line and transmission line routing for the 150 MW cogeneration plant to be built by Sithe Energies in Cardinal, Ontario.

Project: Brockwest Power Plant, Pickering, Ontario Task: Engineering Manager Responsible for the direction and coordination of all engineering activities for this turnkey 25 MW thermal power project. The plant is fired with landfill gas produced in a nearby dump site and consisted of two boilers, steam turbine generator, wet surface air cooled Services: condensers and balance of plant equipment. Due to involvement in the latter stages of the project, the chief responsibility was to initiate and implement design modifications and troubleshoot problems as they arose during the construction, commissioning and start up phases of the project.

SAUDI CONSOLIDATED ELECTRIC COMPANY (SCECO-EAST), 1983 - 1990 KSA Project: Qurayyah Power Plant (4 x 600 MW) Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer Review and approval of contractor design and drawings, evaluation of contractor proposals to verify their qualification and compliance with specified codes and standards (e.g. ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessels Code), the start-up and commissioning of the boiler plants, turbine-generator plants, demineralization plants, plant data acquisition and computer systems, and plant control systems as they relate to mechanical equipment. Set up and developed procedures necessary for the control of contractors works in the course of start- Responsibility: up and commissioning of the plant. Witnessed and accepted commissioning trial tests which included dynamic response testing, combustion control tuning and load rejection testing of each Boiler- Turbine-Generator unit. Supervised the start-up and commissioning of the plant training simulator and examined its dynamic response and overall operations. Worked as a member of the plant performance testing committee which was responsible for the acceptance of the overall plant performance, heat rate and power output.

Project: Qurayyah Power Plant (4 x 600 MW) Position: Acting Principal Engineer, Thermal Plant Engineering Division Headed a team of multi-discipline engineers responsible for all engineering activities in the plant including, design modifications, Responsibility: evaluation and improvement of plant performance, inspection during outages, analyzing unit trips and improving plant reliability.

Project: Qurayyah Power Plant (4 x 600 MW) Position: Acting Chief Commissioning Engineer Responsible for all commissioning activities for Units 1-2. Reviewed contractor’s daily commissioning schedule and assigned engineering Responsibility: personnel to witness the commissioning of the various systems in the plant.

the day to day operation of the plant. Reviewed shifts schedule and developed operators training program. Conducted the plant operations meetings to resolve outstanding issues with the plant maintenance and system operations department.

Project: Ghazlan Power Plant (4 x 400 MW) Position: Lead Performance Engineer Responsible for the gathering of plant data for the calculation of monthly plant performance, reporting deficiencies and recommending corrective action to the plant operations department. Designed and developed the necessary software to calculate unit’s Responsibility: heat rate and produce the monthly performance report. Compiled operations reference manual to train graduate engineers joining the company giving them introduction to the operations of thermal power plants in general and Ghazlan Power Plant in particular.

Project: Ghazlan Power Plant (4 x 400 MW) Position: Plant Engineer Member of a team of multi-discipline engineers whose responsibilities included the evaluation and implementation of plant improvements revamps and upgrades to extend plant life, providing engineering and technical assistance to the plant maintenance and operations divisions and the design and implementation of engineering modifications aimed at improving plant reliability and efficiency. The engineering modifications varied in degree of complexity from minor alterations to existing systems, to the development and implementation of new designs to overcome inherent plant deficiencies. Performed detailed studies of large boiler Responsibility: feed pump systems design, operating modes and modulations problems. Investigated the life extension of boiler superheater and reheater tubes. Reviewed some of the major plant equipment control philosophy and modified to suit new plant requirements. Investigated equipment and instrumentation responsible for the deviation in plant performance. Supervised the implementation of all engineering modifications carried out during the plant annual shut downs. Developed the complete specification for the upgrade of the plan main process computers and was totally responsible for contract negotiations and placement of order with the successful vendor.

1982 - 1983 POLYFAB COMPANY, KSA Position: System Engineer, Engineering and Design Department Design and development of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software for use on the company's latest type of industrialised building systems, (Composite Modular 3, CM3). The software was developed, configured and operated on HP computers, fully configured with digitisers, plotters, printers and various other Responsibility: peripheries. Investigated the use of solar energy panels for the heating/cooling of the CM3 building. The purpose of the investigation was to make the CM3 building system self-sufficient for energy, which makes it ideal to use in hot and remote desert areas. The investigation included HVAC, hot water storage techniques and

evaluation of the environmental effects on the solar panels.

1981 – 1982 LEEDS UNIVERSITY, Leeds, England Conducted a combustion research project under the direction of the Head of the Fuel and Energy Department at Leeds University. The project aimed at investigating combustion properties and combustion characteristics of heavy fuel oils, coal derived oils and water-in-oil emulsions (orimulsion) for industrial and power station boilers. Research Project: Assessment of combustion characteristics was based on the free moving and suspended droplet techniques. Assisted in the investigation of other projects involved in the field of fire spread and hazard in combustion processes, aerodynamics of combustion and flame structure and spectroscopy.
