  • Skating World Mourns Loss of 'Visionary' Billings
Skating world mourns loss of 'visionary' Billings Hamilton, Buttle among those who treasured time working with designer Posted 9/29/16 by Sarah S. Brannen, special to icenetwork Jef Billings, seen here posing with one of his Emmy Award-winning designs, left an indelible mark on the world of figure skating. -Getty Images Designer Jef Billings, who created costumes for skating stars for decades, died Tuesday at the age of 70. Billings was widely regarded as one of the most important designers in figure skating, creating opulent pieces drawn from his experience creating fashion in Hollywood. "His knack was to dive into the character that you were portraying on the ice and really bring out the flavor of that in the costume," said Kristi Yamaguchi, a frequent client of Billings. "Whether it was something comedic and fun, or elegant and glamorous, you put a Jef Billings on and it made you feel special on the ice." Scott Hamilton met Billings in 1984, when Billings showed him some sketches backstage at a tour stop. Hamilton liked his energy and enthusiasm, and the two started working together, forming a partnership that lasted decades. "There was no one like him," Hamilton said. "There are a lot of really talented people out there, but when you look at his technical ability of understanding fabric -- how to cut, how to sew, how to build and create something to make a perfect picture -- he just got it. He wanted women to look gorgeous; he wanted men to look like men. He wanted the skaters to represent whatever the character of the piece was, and he was just brilliant." Billings, who died at his home in Los Angeles on Sept.

SUOMEN TAITOLUISTELULIITTO VUOSIKERTOMUS SUOMEN TAITOLUISTELULIITTO VUOSIKERTOMUS 2018 Julkaisija: Suomen Taitoluisteluliitto Kannen kuva: Antti Lehto Kuvat: Sari Niskanen, Antti Lehto, Kari Pajunen, Nina Kellokoski, STLL Iloisia yllätyksiä, kovaa työtä, onnistumisia uosi 2018 alkoi liiton toimiston muutto- urakalla. Kaiken muun ohella valmisteltiin sitten jo vuoden 2019 muodostelmaluistelun MM-kisoja. VUOSIKERTOMUS 2018 Kilpailujen järjestämisen saralla oli tekemistä, mutta niin oli Pääkirjoitus............................................................ 3 kiirettä kilpailuissakin. • ADULT TRAINING CAMP June 29 – July 1 Starring
Home of Champions Presents the 2007 ADULT TRAINING CAMP June 29 – July 1 starring Nikolai Morozov *plus the largest number of international, World and Olympic skaters ever assembled for this camp including: (Please note: Skater list may be subject to change) Kyoko Ina Naomi Lang Miki Ando Daisuke Takahashi Kristen Fraser & & & John Zimmerman Peter Tchernychev Igor Lukanin AND MORE! Nikolai Morozov, who coaches at the Ice House in Hackensack, NJ, first came to the world’s notice through his work with Tatiana Tarasova and Alexei Yagudin on Yagudin’s famed 2002 Olympic short program, Winter. More successes quickly followed as he guided Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz to their only World ice dancing championship in 2003, while choreographing the programs for many of the sports leading ladies. Then he choreographed the Matrix free skate for Brian Joubert, who became the first Frenchman to win Europeans in decades in 2004. By the 2004 Worlds, he had choreographed the programs for all of the ladies who reached the podium in Dortmund including Shizuka Arakawa, Sasha Cohen, and Michelle Kwan. Although he is most famous for his choreography, the 31 year-old also has a full stable of skaters for whom he is the primary coach. That includes instruction in both dance techniques and jumps up through the quad. One huge advantage for Morozov is his ability to demonstrate any move on the ice, including both the lady’s and the man’s position in ice dancing. That allows him to work with each partner as the other watches to demonstrate the correct positions.
