Regional Collaboration

Marine refuse is a problem across the region. Hong Kong has been collaborating with our regional counterparts to both monitor the problem and conduct clean-up activities.

Notification and Alert Mechanism: Arrangements have been made for Hong Kong and Guangdong authorities to notify each other of possible surges in water-borne refuse through a mechanism set up by the Hong Kong-Guangdong Marine Environment Management Special Panel. In 2019, the alert mechanism was activated on three occasions.

World Oceans Day 2019 - Coastal Clean-up in Guangdong and Hong Kong Marine milestone: Hong Kong and Guangdong collaborated for the first time on coastal clean-up activities, in a milestone for closer collaboration on the EPD staff together with volunteers from the Construction Industry Council participated marine environment. Partnership Progress

Since the 1990s, EPD has had formal partnerships with four sectors that have often been the subject of pollution complaints and convictions: construction, property management, vehicle repair workshops and restaurants.
