My experience with Kinman humbuckers in my Gibsons is simply amazing. I love the sound and the total absence of noise the Extra Vintage Suite produces. When I play in live performances or during recording sessions I always feel comfortable since I am certain of their performance. These Pick ups are without question the best ever. I am really proud to endorse your products. Dario Chiazzolino (international jazz guitarist – composer. Awarded "Best Guitar Player" Umbria Jazz Festival. Nominated Best Guitarist in Italian jazz magazine Guitar List. Nomination for Artist of the year in D-Mag) 31-Aug-13 Installed the Kinman Extra Vintage suite into my Les Paul Standard. The sound is so clear and string balance is just perfect. Even on split coil, they sound great (very little hum). Previously once the AC30 started to clip, the sound lost definition. Now I can get the growl without losing notes. Thanks Chris. These are just brilliant. Regards, Phil Sharp (Australia) 5-July-2013 I have the Impersonator 54 and PAF Astound HSS setup fitted in my favourite Parker Nitefly. Wow!! The sound really nails what I was looking for - some authentic bell-like strat tones from the singles along with some player-sensitive creamy bite from the humbucker. The volume balance is just awesome. The guitar sounds like it really should now - incredibly versatile and all round fantastic. If anybody else should seek advice on doing a Parker Nitefly, you can confidently recommend the setup I've just installed. Thanks for all your help and for a brilliant Aussie product. I have been making my own guitars for some 10years and the one on the attached photo is an all mahogny guitar with your pickups installed. It sounds like a dream and sings for ever!!!!!!!!!!! I have showed it to some good music friends here in Gothenburg and even compared it with Custom Shop Gibsons, Fenders and Suhrs in one of our local music stores. They don't come close to the sound, clearity or sustain!!!! So for my next project, a Telecaster type of guitar, I will go for the Extra Vintage Humbucker again but I would like to combine it with a neck Telecaster pickup. I thought my last set of low output pickups sounded great, and these sound even better and are lower output! All the detail is in the sound, the pick attack, the position of the pots, the amp settings, even the effects cut through better! The thing really growls with the gain up and tracks without being mushy. Super dynamic and ultra clear. It has the clarity of the a single coil, but in a humbucker. I love it. I had Ray install the pickups in Brisbane and he split them too, and the single coil sounds are so sweet! My experience has always sucked when I did this previously. Top job Chris. These are a very special. I have regularly swapped out the pickups in my guitars, and these are the best I've ever come across. This is a superb thing you have created here. Thanks again. Ravi. 28-Sept-11 Hi Chris just wanted to let you know I received the PAF+ humbuckers. What I've used in the past are Lollar, Seth Lover, Gibson T top, Dimarzio, Tokai Stock Pickups, and other Seymour Duncan but there is definitely something in the PAF+ that has caught my ear. My gosh you sure have the science down, and then the ear to boot. Dom Polito (Classic Albums Live, Canada) 28-Sept-11 I want to tell you how blown away I am by the Extra Vintage humbuckers that I had fitted to my Overwater; to be honest, I expected the result to be fairly subtle, instead it has completely opened up the sound of the guitar – it actually has a twang now, as any electric guitar should! I did suspect for many years that the original Bill Lawrence humbuckers it was originally fitted with were letting it down. Best Regards, Simon Stock 26-Sept-11 Hi, I thought you might like my impression of the pickup so far. It's medium output and matches very well with my 62 singles. The wound strings have the perfect balance of bite and warmth and the same can be said of the plain strings. Sustain is very impressive. In split mode is gives a beautiful " quack " when mixed with the mid 62 and I'd like to suggest offering a set comprised of a PAF+ and 2 x 62 singles in your product range as an incredibly versatile all round set. I've now used mine in the studio and on stage. My Anderson guitar has a mini toggle to split the PAF and a push pull on the tone knob to add it with the neck single and I can get a hot Strat as well as a really convincing Tele tone by pulling the toggle, INCREDIBLE !!!! I'm a real fan of this set. mark overfield 25-Sept-11 Hi Chris/Joe I received my new PAF+ pickups and had them installed in a Gibson ES-137 to replace the original way too hot 490 and 498. The difference is night and day - your pickups are everything claimed and a pretty but average sounding guitar now has the voice it always should have. As much as I bought the pickups to improve cleans just on the edge of break-up, which has happened in spades, what amazes me is the way it handles high-gain now; complex yet clear notes with a fantastic harmonic signature. It's now one of my favourite guitars. Thanks for delivering on your products and Joe's guidance in selecting my pickups. Stephen Hird 5-Sept-11 Hi at Kinman, I recieved and fitted 2 Extra Vintage pickups to my owned since new 1978 Les Paul custom, and it seems to me with the kinmans it has the tone its supposed to have. After having kinmans installed in my strats and tele, the les paul fitted with seymore duncan alnico pro 11s sounded dull and muddy, not any more. I now have some very musical instruments, thanks to kinman. I play music in 4 different original bands in my home town, my guitars all cut through very clear comparitive to others. keep up the good work, regards Mike Kirk .

    5.2 Humbucker 5-9 5.2 Humbuckers The interference occurring with single-coil pickups motivated the development of the Humbucker. Single-coil pickups do not only pickup the vibration of the strings and generate a corresponding electric voltage, but they are also sensitive to magnetic fields as they are radiated by transformers, fluorescent lamps, or mains cables. Instead of having one coil, the "Hum-Bucker" consists of two coils connected to form a dipole and wired such that they are out of phase. The magnetic field generated by external interference sources induces in each coil the same voltage. Because of the anti-phase connection of the two coils the voltages cancel each other out. If the field generated by the permanent magnet would also flow through both coils with the same polarity, the signals generated by the vibrating string also be cancelled – this of course must not happen. For this reason the permanent field flows through the two coils in an anti-parallel manner such that the voltages induced by the vibrating strings are out of phase. Because the coils are connected out of phase, the voltages are turned twice by 180° i.e. they are again in phase (180° +180° = 360° corresp. to 0°). With this arrangement the signal-to-noise ratio can be improved somewhat compared to single-coil pickups (chapter 5.7). As early as the 1930s designers sought to develop a marketable pickup based on compensation principles which were generally already known. Seth Lover, technician with the guitar manufacturer Gibson, achieved the commercial break-through.

I was aware that Fender made some guitars sporting that device (Starcaster, Telecaster Deluxe, Telecaster Custom, and the 2nd version of the Telecaster Thinline - and the 2nd version of the Telecaster Bass) but no one in my circles played anything like that. I remember playing a jam session (maybe 1975) where the other two guitarists incidentally both played Telecaster Customs (one of them heavily modded with a third Fender Humbucker - quite a feat for the time), but since I was totally nervous (being the junior amongst what I considered much more serious and accomplished musicians) I never paid much attention to whether they got a particular sound. I think I did asked one of the guys and got a response along the lines of "yeah we play these pickups 'cause the give more output but retain more of that Fender sound". Anyway, that was my one and only encounter with the Fender Humbucker for a long time. In the mid 1980's I could finally afford to keep more than just that one main guitar, and with a Les Paul and an ES-335 already at home, I decided that I should finally branch out into the world of Fenders, as well.     Vintage Gibson PAF (Patent Applied For) Humbucker Pickup Info. Because of the amount of "bogus" PAF (Patent Applied For) Gibson humbucker pickups out there, I was asked to create this web page (thanks to GW Dean and BurstMeUp for information and pictures). This web page includes information on the pickups themselves *and* their plastic mounting rings. The originality of the pickups and their mounting rings are both important factors in the integrity of a vintage Gibson guitar. There are some basic facts that should be known about these first-generation humbucking pickups. First PAF pickups came about in 1956 on Gibson steel guitar models, and on 1957 on many Gibson spanish guitar models, and lasted to about 1962 to 1965. Nickel plated part models transitioned away from PAF pickups first around 1962, since these guitars were sold in greater numbers. Gold plated part guitars can often be found with PAFs (or one PAF and one Patent# pickup) as late as 1965. PAF pickups of course have two internal coil bobbins under a 1.5" x 2.75" metal cover with one bobbin having a row of six adjustable slot-head poles, and the other bobbin being non-adjustable. PAF History. I guess we should start with a little history of the Gibson PAF pickup. By the mid- 1950s, Gibson wanted to counter the latest electric guitars introduced by Fender. Leo Fender had built a company that was a sizable competitor in the solid-body guitar market place. Gibson believed they could beat Fender with their high quality Les Paul, and by developing a low-noise pickup.
