1902
Work began to construct The Waring and Gillow Department Store. The architect was R. Frank Atkinson.
1906
The venue was opened. The style of the building was intended to resemble Hampton Court Palace.
1928
The Modern Art department was founded which acted as an influential force of modern British interior design.
1977
The internal structure of the building was redeveloped to create an open plan format for office purposes.
1986
About 110,000 sq ft was being fitted out by Newarthill plc for Credit Suisse as a dealing floor.
1996
The young TV Company “MTV” acquired 120,000 sq ft from owner occupier/tenant Credit Suisse First Boston.
2001
Toyota occupied 12,000 sq ft of sixth-floor office space staying there for 14 years.
2010
Leading comms and media services company Arquiva took 13,000 sq ft on the 4th Floor.
2011
Fast growing Essence Digital Ltd took 27,000 sq ft of third- floor office space on a 10-year lease.

04. Entering through a historical Building façade
Beautiful external architecture hiding strikingly modern solutions.
UK House boasts an ornate period façade, the style of which was meant to resemble Hampton Court Palace.
The architect succeeded in this intention and created beautiful baroque-style external walls, designed to dominate the eastern end of Oxford Street. But it was only the aesthetics which were historical. The structure of UK House was one of the first steel framed buildings in London, allowing for the construction of huge well-lit floor plates. Now, after going through many improvements it provides a home to an impressive retail space on the ground floor and seven floors of office space above.

The internal architecture has been completely redefined to give UK House’s tenants a most contemporary experience. There are two internal lightwells, specially refurbished with the purpose of providing a surprising amount of natural light into office and retail accommodation. The light access is improved even further with a smart stepped structure of walls surrounding one of those voids.
