Well folks – a couple more races and we are done for this season. The good news is nobody got hurt. There is no better feeling than being a part of making racing a safe sport.

A special thanks to those who helped to raise funds for the club this year – Linda, Caroline and Maddy – job well done!

Again this year, META was in full force for the Soap Box races in Mission, our way of giving back to the community where we race. You feel like a million bucks seeing all those kids with smiling faces when they go down the hill. Mission is now the only place to hold this event, and META can be proud to be a part of it. Thanks to Doris, Joe, Ann, Taz and myself – good stuff.

It was so nice to see so many workers at the ICSCC event in Mission – just like the old days.

META members, it is time again to think about supporting our club - an organization which has been in existence for 40 years. Think about being a part of the Executive and getting involved to help the club make it to its 50 th anniversary.

See you

Pigot claims Pro Mazda title in wild finale By Mazda Road to Indy Published: Aug 23, 2014

SONOMA, Calif. -- No one could have written a script as convoluted as the one which played out in the Pro Mazda Grand Prix of Sonoma.

The Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires was at stake, along with a $588,800 MAZDASPEED Driver Development Scholarship for the series champion to graduate to Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, the next step on the Mazda Road to Indy, in 2015.

A sequence of almost unbelievable dramas enabled 17-year-old Mexican Jose Gutierrez to emerge with his first victory, while Juncos Racing teammate claimed the championship spoils after Cape Motorsports with Racing's Scott Hargrove experienced a broken transmission while in the lead with just four laps remaining.

The action began moments after the start when Pigot tucked in behind pole sitter Hargrove on the entry to Turn 1 only to be hit from behind by Hargrove's teammate, Neil Alberico. The contact sent Pigot spinning and caused several other cars to be caught up in the melee. The resulting full-course caution enabled Pigot to catch up to the back of the field at the restart, but his title hopes were virtually in tatters with Hargrove leading the race.

Hargrove soon began to inch clear at the restart, with Gutierrez in second ahead of Nicolas Costa (), Shelby Blackstock (Andretti Autosport) and newcomers Jack Aitken (Team Pelfrey) and Joey Bickers (World Speed Motorsports), both of whom were making their Pro Mazda debuts this weekend.

Hargrove looked to be set for the title and was told by his crew over the radio to look after his car and "bring it home." Even as Gutierrez whittled away at the deficit, reducing it from 2.2 seconds on Lap 8 to 1.3 seconds on Lap 11, Hargrove seemed to be in control. Then, suddenly, he lost the use of third gear. Shortly afterward, the caution flags waved again as Kyle Kaiser's Juncos Racing entry stalled on the racetrack.

The restart came with four laps remaining and Hargrove still in the lead. Pigot, meanwhile, had charged from 18th to seventh, then relieved Bickers of sixth at Turn 4. But surely it still wasn't enough. Well, moments later, Hargrove abruptly slowed. His gearbox was failing.

Hargrove kept going and almost collided with Pigot as his rival rounded the stricken Canadian at Turn 8, but only as far as the pits. His title hopes, along with his transmission, had been shattered.

Gutierrez duly stroked home to the win, while Costa maintained his streak of top-five finishes with second place ahead of Blackstock, who secured his second podium within a week. Aitken came home fourth ahead of an elated Pigot and Bickers, then teammate Alex Keyes who capped an excellent debut weekend with another strong result.

"I don't have words to describe how it feels to win my first Pro Mazda race, it's incredible," Gutierrez said. "We had a really good race, we made no mistakes and just kept the pressure on Hargrove until he ended up having a problem. What an amazing day for Juncos Racing. This is a huge confidence boost going into the off-season. I can't wait to come back next year to fight for more wins and the championship."

Honda Indy on move to CTMP: Sources Say By Dean McNulty, Toronto Sun First posted: Friday, August 29, 2014 07:04 PM EDT Updated: Friday, August 29, 2014 07:11 PM EDT

There will be a Verizon IndyCar Series Honda Indy Toronto next year. It just won’t be in Toronto. Green Savoree Racing Promotions revealed on Friday that they are in talks to move the race to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park for the 2015 edition of the summer festival of speed.

The reason for the move: The PanAm Games will take over the temporary street course for virtually all of July and most of August next summer. Although neither Green Savoree nor CTMP officials would confirm it, the Toronto Sun learned from two reliable sources close to the situation, that the deal is done. In a joint statement, Honda Indy president Charlie Johnstone and CTMP president Myles Brandt both said discussions are ongoing.

“Understandably, the Toronto 2015 Pan Am & Parapan American Games have forced us to consider alternative dates and venues for next year’s race,” Johnstone said. “We have worked tirelessly to explore all options and are close to making an announcement regarding when and where we’ll be racing in 2015.” Brandt said CTMP was willing to step in to help a fellow promoter. “Kim Green and Kevin Savoree are friends within the motorsports industry and we will do whatever we can to help maintain an IndyCar date in 2015 here in Canada, given the challenges of the 2015 Pan-Am Games,” Brandt said.

IndyCar technical boss Tony Cotman was at the Bowmanville track earlier this month and made a report to his bosses about the readiness of CTMP to host an open-wheel race. CTMP co-owner Ron Fellows said he thought Cotman’s track inspection went well. “We do have an inspection report (from Cotman), now we just have to sort through it,” he said. Fellows did say there didn’t appear to be any concerns about the track in the report that couldn’t be easily remedied.

IMSA: 2015 TUDOR Championship schedule revealed Marshall Pruett Sunday, 10 August 2014

The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship will hold 10 races for its four classes across 12 venues in 2015. Heeding the calls of its competitors, the series has reduced the total number of races per class by one, dropping from 11 to 10. The 2015 season spans Jan. 24-25 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona to Oct. 3 with the finale at . "The decision by us to go to 10 was motivated by a very consistent request coming out of our paddock – teams described as very highly resourced and some of those without as many resources," IMSA President and COO Scott Atherton told RACER. "Merging these two championships together, the biggest positive was this calendar we assembled at all of the iconic venues. That's the positive cut from the blade. "The negative cut from that same blade came in the total number of hours running for both camps. If you were an team, you saw a nearly 50 percent increase, and if you were a Grand-Am team, it was somewhere in the 28 to 30 percent range. Both sides had a big increase, and we believe this schedule retains all of the magic from the 2014 calendar, but at a 10-race schedule for each class."

Kansas and Indianapolis, two of the events on the 2014 calendar, have also been dropped for 2015. Lime Rock, which hosted a Continental Tire Series round in May, makes its return with two TUDOR Championship classes added to the schedule next year. Another notable change includes the addition of PC to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and the deletion of GT Daytona from the event. GT Le Mans and GTD will hold their own race at VIR, while PC will hold a standalone race at the winding Virginian road course.

"This is an example where we say there's a genuine desire to come back together in the future is an accurate statement," Atherton said of IMS. "The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IMSA want to rejoin to have an event there in the not too distant future. It wasn't able to be confirmed this year, but I'm confident we'll have the TUDOR Championship or some other IMSA content back at the Speedway."

"We had more feedback last year across all categories, from the Governor of Connecticut to fans, about Lime Rock not being on the schedule, and while it wasn't a write-in campaign, we polled our stakeholders and when the ranking came in, it was a fairly consistent request for Lime Rock to make a return."
