This year’s sale of Raising the Roof toques brought in more than $1,300 to support the organization. Unveiling of a statue for St. Dorothy Catholic School With the start of the 2008-2009 school year, principal Adalgisio Bria’s vision to create school spirit in Catholic community came to fruition. Great excitement and anticipation was felt with the plan to create a school crest and to purchase a statue of the school’s patron saint, Dorothy. After a long search, the perfect statue was found which best reflected the vision of St. Dorothy. The project was a community effort, with students, parents and staff all involved in raising funds. Dress down day money, penny jar contribution, soup and sandwich day, chili day, 50/50 draws and personal donations all came together to support the effort. To commemorate the day, classes wrote prayers honouring St. Dorothy, and one was selected to be featured on a prayer card that was to be distributed to the entire school community. This prayer will be recited every day during morning prayers. The Feast Day of St. Dorothy on February 6th was chosen as the day for the official unveiling and blessing of the statue. The day was devoted to celebration the special feast day. Mass was celebrated by Father Horacio, and this was followed by the solemn blessing and dedication of the statue. Classrooms celebrations followed, with a pot-luck luncheon for staff and special guests, including Superintendent Paul Crawford, CSAC Chair Donna Zorbas, Religion Resource Lilian Compagnone and retired staff members of the school’s Gospel Values Committee. Ringing in the New Year Patricia Ho-Asjoe and her class bring the dragon to the classrooms to celebrate Chinese New Year at St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic School. St. Margaret Catholic School Celebrates R-E-S-P-E-C-T and Multicultural Manners St. Margaret Catholic School welcomed “Say Hello to All the World!” concert with Judi The Manners Lady as they celebrated R-E-S-P-E-C-T and Multicultural Manners. On January 21st, Judi presented two highly energetic and exciting presentations to the students. The award-winning recording artist, speaker and author of “Manners Are Cool” used her message and exciting music to actively engaged students in singing and learning about Gospel values. Her lively songs such as “The Golden Rule Rap”, “Goodness Gracious Gratitude” and “R-E-S-P- E-C-T” were an enjoyable way to reinforce manners and respect. Kirk Mark from TCDSB’s Race and Ethnic Relations Multiculturalism Department and Michael McMorrow, Superintendent of Education, participated in a role playing exercise allowing students to practise how to respectfully greet others. St. Margaret’s has accepted The Manners Lady’s 2010 Challenge to the schools in Canada to learn how to say “Hi, How are you?” in the language of every child who attends the school. Viva Carnival Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School Teacher Andrzej Rozbicki once again conducted the Celebrity Symphony Orchestra during their latest performance Viva Carnival in January. This event also showcased the World Premiere of "Bishop Marrocco Rhapsody" - a full orchestral piece composed by 18-year- old Isaias Garcia, who recently graduated from Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton. Celebrating Winter St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic School was among the many TCDSB schools celebrating winter recently. It was Carnaval time at the school and staff and students celebrated the occasion with a visit from Bonhomme and a variety of outdoor games in the snow. St. John the Evangelist Student Chosen 2009 Champion Child by SickKids Foundation The entire school community joined in the celebration as 10-year-old Patricia Espin-Jurado officially became this year’s ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Champions Across Canada presented by Wal-Mart Canada in February. Patricia, a student at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School, has been a patient at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) since she was a baby.

  • Welcome to Windsor Coaches, Players and Fans ! Welcome to Canada’S Oldest University Sponsored Annual Holiday Boy’S High School Basketball Tournament
Welcome to Windsor Coaches, Players and Fans ! Welcome to Canada’s oldest university sponsored annual holiday boy’s high school basketball tournament. We usually say that OFSAA dreams begin now, in December, and the road often passes through Windsor. This year the path to success will return to Windsor. The 2016 OFSAA “AAA” Championship will take place in Windsor March 7-9. In the past, 13 teams have won this tournament and then gone on to win at OFSAA - known as the “Windsor-OFSAA Double Play” (see list on page 27). This was the very first Christmas Holiday Tournament in On- tario and began as a way for the University (known then as Assumption College) to showcase itself and the basketball talent in this part of the province. Current Lancers Mike Rocca, Isiah Osborne, Marko Kovac and Micah Kirubel all are past tournament participants. Many of those early tournament players saw the enthusiasm for basketball in Wind- sor and chose to enroll at the University of Windsor. Lancer basketball teams of the ‘70s dominated Canadian University play. Look up into the rafters to see all the CIAU banners. In 1957 the dream of Windsor Star Sports writer Ken Fathers was born. Frank Wansborough of the Windsor & District Basketball Association and Jimmy Hogan of the Windsor Church Basketball Association created a new trophy just for the tournament. It was named in honour of the late Windsor Alderman Benny Crowley, an avid basketball supporter. Just as today, the best teams from across Ontario were invited to compete in Windsor, to see if they had what it takes to go deep into March playdowns.
