Most recent, was the delightful Vivienne Improvement Bill Jones who celebrated with an open house for her neighbours and who loves her visits to her local coffee With the backing of the Liberal party, Rachel lodged shops in Walkerville during her daily walks. Vivienne 51 amendments to the Housing Improvement Bill. This lives by the principle of “it is no good worrying about bill is an update of the Housing Improvement Act 1940 your age’ it’s just a number”. What is more important which was introduced following the depression in the is how you feel and “life is what you make of it”. 1930’s when standards of housing was very poor eg., no running water, lack of sanitation etc. Three remedies These words are a reminder for all of us. were available 1/ rent control, 2/ improvement orders, or 3/ a demolition order. This originally applied to metro Adelaide only and although could apply to both rental properties and owner occupiers the Minister when questioned in Parliament could only name one time in the 1980’s when this had been applied to an owner occupier home. Whilst I am pleased the government have accepted 21 of my amendments predominantly halving the penalties that are to apply (NB: these were significantly increased from $100 to $20,000), I still take objection to the government telling people how to live in their own homes. Rachel with Vivienne Jones at her 100th birthday party. Under the current amended Bill, the government may, after receiving a report, inspect your personal home Most days there are issues that we are confronted without giving any notice; use reasonable force to gain with that may affect our lives or our community and I entry if they believe there is just cause; take photos have worked with many of my constituents on issues or film; and remove your property for evidence. I find such as: this an intolerable breach of privacy and am currently seeking the support of the cross benchers in the • Cost of living pressures – electricity, water and rates Legislative Council to have this blocked. • Emergency services levy hike • Closure of our local police stations I am also very concerned that many people who are • The O’Bahn extension project living in their homes as they renovate will be captured • Save The Repat by this Bill along with those who choose to live simple • New CBD High School zoning issues lives without all of the modern conveniences now • Cycling regulations review available to them. • Planning and Development Post: 84 Prospect Road, Prospect, SA 5082 | Phone: (08) 8269 1838 | Email: [email protected] Rachel Sanderson MP State Member for Adelaide Regional Visits In my role as Shadow Minister I have undertaken Committee, Lameroo Historical Society, Mallee several regional trips to meet with service providers Tourist and Heritage Centre Committee, CFS and members of local communities to listen to their volunteers, Pinnaroo Show Society at the Lameroo concerns and ideas. (Continued from 12 May 2021.) The Hon. S.S. MARSHALL (Dunstan—Premier) (19:31): I rise to speak on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill. I support the second reading of this bill. I have supported legislation for assisted dying when it has been before this house previously. I do so again, not because I would avail myself of such laws but because I do not believe that I can deny other South Australians the right to make that choice. In providing this legal option at the end of a person's life, this bill establishes a range of mandatory protections, approvals and reviews to prevent exploitation. I have every respect for those who do not support voluntary assisted dying. I understand their views and their concerns. I have considered the deep and sensitive moral, ethical, legal, medical and professional considerations associated with this question, but it is also important to recognise that with the passage of these laws we will not be entering on the so-called slippery slope.
