Steven Marshall MP State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall MP State Liberal Leader Thursday 12 June 2014 Marshall renews Shadow Cabinet – five new faces State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall has today unveiled five new faces in his renewed and regenerated Shadow Cabinet line-up. “My renewed Shadow Cabinet strikes a balance between experience and regeneration,” said Mr Marshall. Member for Mitchell Corey Wingard, Member for Adelaide Rachel Sanderson, Member for Morialta John Gardner and Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone will now form part of Mr Marshall’s renewed and focussed frontbench. Member for Flinders Peter Treloar has been appointed Shadow Cabinet Secretary. Mr Wingard, whose electorate is located in south western Adelaide, was elected to Parliament in 2014 and will assume the important portfolios of Transport and Road Safety. Ms Sanderson, who was first elected to Parliament in 2010, has been appointed Shadow Minister for Higher Education, Science and the Information Economy, Families and Child Protection, Social Housing, Volunteers and Youth. Mr Gardner, who was first elected to Parliament in 2010, retains his position as Manager of Opposition Business and will now also take on the important portfolios of Police, Correctional Services and Justice. Mr Whetstone, whose electorate of Chaffey covers the Riverland region of South Australia including the towns of Renmark, Berri, Barmera, Loxton and Waikerie, will become Shadow Minister for Investment and Trade, Recreation and Sport, and Racing. “The State Liberals have an opportunity for renewal, and it’s important that we take it,” said Mr Marshall. “Corey Wingard, Rachel Sanderson, John Gardner, Tim Whetstone and Peter Treloar are strong additions to my revitalised and renewed Shadow Cabinet. “This is an important time for renewal within the State Liberal team and I’m looking forward to the contributions they will each make over the coming years. “The entire State Liberal team is strong, united and committed to working together to hold to account this tired and dysfunctional Weatherill Labor Government.” Please note: Mr Marshall will announce his full Shadow Cabinet reshuffle later this morning. (Continued from 12 May 2021.) The Hon. S.S. MARSHALL (Dunstan—Premier) (19:31): I rise to speak on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill. I support the second reading of this bill. I have supported legislation for assisted dying when it has been before this house previously. I do so again, not because I would avail myself of such laws but because I do not believe that I can deny other South Australians the right to make that choice. In providing this legal option at the end of a person's life, this bill establishes a range of mandatory protections, approvals and reviews to prevent exploitation. I have every respect for those who do not support voluntary assisted dying. I understand their views and their concerns. I have considered the deep and sensitive moral, ethical, legal, medical and professional considerations associated with this question, but it is also important to recognise that with the passage of these laws we will not be entering on the so-called slippery slope.
