The inquiry into the Country Members Accommodation ignited an ICAC investigation into its practice by a number of regional MPs. Commissioner Bruce Lander would not disclose which three MPs are the subjects of the inquiry over the allowance and says he does not know how much money is concerned. Wills says Jing Lee is a Liberal member of the Legislative Council who is likely to replace president Terry Stephens after the expenses issue but is opposed due to her ability to create links in with the Chinese community. He adds additional scrutiny is due to the Federal Government's decision to reevaluate all foreign agreements. Dayman says Peter Martin has discovered more MPs involved in the allowance scandal including Lynn Brewer, Tim Whetstone, Peter Treloar, and Michael Pengelly who all have different reasons. She states the ABC Investigation reveals how deep-seated the problem is. McClaren remarks ICAC's Bruce Lander says there should be a code of conduct for MPs and it will be up to Justice Ann Vanstone to pick up the case where he left off. Wills explains the SA Premier Steven Marshall and SA Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas' differing stances on dealing with MPs using parliamentary privilege to thwart the ICAC investigation. Wills states why presiding officer positions are coveted in the Lower and Upper House. With all the infill in Marion Council, and the diminishing open space for children to play on, the council could make a fortune from a child bylaw. With a dog bylaw of $36 just to apply for a second dog, and a cat bylaw of $36 just to apply for a third cat, just imagine how much revenue could be made from charging $36 to apply for a second child? Marion Council has missed out on extracting more money from its residents for fines from their cat-curfew bylaw after parliament quashed it. So now they are after the dogs. There is no ruling by the Dog and Cat Management Board that I know of to charge a fee to apply for a council permit to keep a second dog. The ruling about the space required is not justified anyway, because one lonely dog is not a solution to barking. Marion Council is becoming unpopular for its appalling exploitation of pets. JAMES M. (Continued from 12 May 2021.) The Hon. S.S. MARSHALL (Dunstan—Premier) (19:31): I rise to speak on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill. I support the second reading of this bill. I have supported legislation for assisted dying when it has been before this house previously. I do so again, not because I would avail myself of such laws but because I do not believe that I can deny other South Australians the right to make that choice. In providing this legal option at the end of a person's life, this bill establishes a range of mandatory protections, approvals and reviews to prevent exploitation. I have every respect for those who do not support voluntary assisted dying. I understand their views and their concerns. I have considered the deep and sensitive moral, ethical, legal, medical and professional considerations associated with this question, but it is also important to recognise that with the passage of these laws we will not be entering on the so-called slippery slope.

FROM THE WAB STATE PRESIDENT Hello all WAB Members, On 17th January, it was with great pleasure that I attended the unveiling of the WAB 80th Birthday banner at its permanent home of 1 King William St, Adelaide in the office of Hon Tim Whetstone MP, Minister of Primary Industries & Rural Development on the 10th floor. Hon Vickie Chapman MP, Attorney General and Deputy Premier, and a WAB On-Line member, officially unveiled the beautiful WAB banner. It certainly looks fantastic against the wall, having been cleaned, stretched and framed with white metal. We should all be very proud of this work of art and part of WAB’s history. We are also in the process of adding a plaque explaining the history of the name of WAB and details of the unveiling. My fourth Field Days experience was at Lucindale on 15-16th March where our stall was at the opening of the Yakka Pavilion. I met some prospective members, chatted with present and past members and gathered information on potential guest speakers. I also sold raffle tickets for MS, our state-wide project for this year. Thank you to members of Lochaber, Padthaway and Stewarts Range for helping. I think that attending the field days has been a valuable opportunity to show the public our rich history and dynamic presence in rural SA.
