Sunday, June 21 If you are a fan of theme parks, then this will be your favorite day. We will spend Sunday exploring the world famous Cedar Point theme park. This 365-acre park is the second oldest in the US and is arguably the roller coaster capital of the world! Cedar Point has also received the Golden Ticket Award for "Best Amusement Park in the World" from Amusement Today for 16 consecutive years. Check out coasters like Magnum XL-200, Millennium Force, Wicked Twister, and Top Thrill Dragster. Monday, June 22 - Wednesday, June 24 We will get up early and continue our travels to the big city of Chicago, Illinois! This classic US city is full of sights and sounds you don’t want to miss. We’ll spend the next few days visiting places like the Shedd Aquarium, the largest indoor aquarium in the world, with more than 8000 aquatic animals, and take a relaxing cruise on the Chicago River to truly see the beauty of this magnificent city. A stop at the 360 Chicago Observation Deck will also provide you with an unforgettable view of the city. For you baseball fans out there, get ready for a visit to the historic Wrigley Field where the Cubs play baseball. But that’s not all - we’ll spend an afternoon watching a game to take in the full Wrigley experience. With plenty of free time, don’t forget to enjoy Chicago foods like Deep Dish Chicago style pizza, Chicago Hot Dogs, Italian Beef Sandwiches, etc. On Wednesday, June 24, we’ll travel 4 hours south to Indianapolis and the International Convention! Thursday, June 25 - Sunday, June 28 Official convention activities continue through Saturday. At the convention, you will attend dynamic general sessions, informational workshops, candidate debates, and an exciting service fair! You will also be in charge of electing the new officers of Key Club International. There will be motivational speakers, entertainment, and almost 3 full days of excitement…lots to take back to make your club stronger! But this convention is unlike any other! As a celebration of Kiwanis’ 100th anniversary Kiwanis, Circle K and Key Club will all be in town for an epic and historic weekend! With joint sessions and even a performance by Hellogoodbye, this convention is not one to miss. You’ll also have plenty of time to explore downtown Indianapolis. With your new friends, take in the sights and grab a local bite to eat. You’ll never forget Indy! Sadly, all good things must come to an end. The required deposit to hold my place on the tour is $500.00, due by May 1, 2015 , followed by remaining balance of $499.00 by May 30, 2015 ($899.00 for adults). The tour package (extensive, described on page 2 of this form) includes the cost of the International Convention registration ($200.00 cost) and I understand I do not need to complete a separate International Convention registration form. I also understand that if I cannot attend after sending in my registration and fees, I must notify Mr. J. Scott Johnson via delivery confirmable mail by May 1, 2015. Otherwise, any cancellations after May 1 will result in the loss of any money I have paid for the tour and convention reservation. The Key Club International cancellation deadline DOES NOT apply because I am registering as part of a District Tour. If I find a replacement to fill my spot, the replacement must be of the same gender and registrant classification (i.e. students replace students or adults replace adults), and submitted prior to May 30, 2015. Because certain permission slips must be completed in advance, substitutes must be approved by Mr. Johnson. By requesting a student registration rate, I understand that 3 roommates will be assigned to me, and that I will be sharing a bed with another student of the same gender unless I bring alternative bedding (sleeping bag, pillow, blanket, etc.) to sleep on the floor of my assigned room. I may indicate my roommate preferences below, but understand no guarantees are made as to who my roommates will be. Lastly, I understand that I will be required to follow the Carolinas District and Key Club International Code of Conduct at all times, and that failure to do so could result in removal from the convention and tour, and I (or my parents/guardians) will be responsible for costs associated with an early departure and return home. No refunds of any nature will be given for participants having to be removed from the convention and tour.     Cedar Point Real World Performance Tasks Real World Real Life, Real Data, Real-Time - These activities put students into real life scenarios where they use real-time, real data to solve proBlems. In the Relationship Status series, we use data from theme parks and update our data regularly. Note - some data has been rounded or simplified in order to adjust the math to the appropriate level. Engaging Relevant – Students today are familiar with and enjoy amusement park rides, making these activities very relevant to children’s everyday lives. To pique their interest further, try asking the Your Challenge question to the class first. Authentic Tasks - Through these activity sheets students learn how the amusement park industry works and are prompted to form opinions and ideas about how they would solve real life proBlems. A glossary is included to help them with the unfamiliar terms used. Student Choice - Each set of activity sheets is available in multiple versions where students will do the same activities using data for different amusement parks (e.g., Busch Gardens, Hershey Park, Six Flags, etc.) You or your students can pick the location that most interests them. Modular Principal Activity - The activity sheets always start with repeated practice of a core skill matched to a common core standard, as set out in the Teacher Guide. This principal activity (or Level 1 as it is labeled to students) can Be used in isolation. This should generally take around 10-15 minutes. Step Up Activity - For the Level 2 questions, students are required to integrate a different skill or set of skills with increasing complexity.

Roller coasters are iconic structures that provide safe thrills for riders. Safety is achieved using multiple safety mechanisms: for example, bogies have multiple wheels that hold trains on track, a block system prevents trains from colliding and riders are held in place with safety restraints. Regular maintenance checks are also performed to prevent accidents caused by failed parts. Roller coasters are designed using a heartline spline and calculating accelerations in all possible scenarios to prevent rollbacks and too high values of accelerations, which could cause damage to riders’ bodies. A reach envelope is applied to the spline to prevent riders from hitting nearby objects. The speed and curvature of the track combined create acceler- ations that need to be countered with adequate track and support structures. A track cross- section usually consists of rails, cross-ties and a spine, while support structures can vary depending on height and loads.
