HAPPY 2019! WELCOME ABOARD NEW RESIDENTS! Happy New Year to all of our great residents! I hope that you enjoyed the holiday season and were able to ring in 2019 with your friends at Island Shores. You will find photos of our New Year’s Eve party in this month’s newsletter.
Now that the holidays are behind us, the Activities staff is busy Claire D’Agostaro planning some interesting and fun programs to keep our Andrew Melisi residents active during the winter months. On January 23, we Mike McCloud will be hosting at trip to the ‘new’ Staten Island Mall for those Lila Stridiron folks who didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas.J But if it’s Jean Milazzo too cold for some of you to venture outdoors to shop, we have plenty of events indoors to keep you busy…and warm. There will be a pre-Chinese New Year celebration in the middle of this month followed by a celebration of China in February. And finally, we will ‘travel’ together to Scandinavia to learn about the country’s history and culture before January concludes. We hope that 2019 has been a good year for all of our residents so far. If there is anything the staff can do to make it a better year at Island Shores, please let us know. NEW YEAR’S EVE WAS A BLAST!
It was a full house for our annual New Year’s Ave party held in the Shores Game Room.
For this year’s party, a new and very young entertainer, Tim G., got both the residents and staff out of their seats and up dancing not long into his performance. And even though Tim was probably the youngest musician to entertain at Island Shores, his music was diverse and appropriate for our ‘swinging’ crowd. At the end of his gig, Tim was asked by many of our partygoers if he would return to Island Shores sometime in the New Year. The staff will certainly extend another invitation.
It was hard not to have a good time with copious amounts of champagne, delicious assorted appetizers and delectable Belgian sweets (donated by Kay) for all to share. Not a drop of champagne was left after the party… so guess this means everyone had a good time.
A big thank you to our super sweet resident, Ralph G., for ‘dropping the balloons’ after Island’s (early) countdown to the New Year.
We hope that you all enjoyed our little fête and look forward to continuing to celebrate the New Year over the next few months.

WOW! NOEMI HAS BEEN HERE FOR 17 YEARS!
On January 11, Island staff threw a surprise party for a special lady, Noemi N., who has been a resident at Island Shores for over seventeen years! Can you believe that folks?
As most of you know, Noemi hails from Rome, Italy, and is very proud of her Italian heritage. She is one of the few residents at Island Shores who speaks Italian fluently. As the staff mentioned during the celebration, Noemi is very much loved by her extended family as well as by the many residents and staff she befriended over the years.
Congratulations Noemi! We at Island Shores hope that you will be a part of our special family for another seventeen years!
