President Michael Morell joined the CIA in 1980. He spent 14 years Thomas B. Wheeler covering East Asia, during which time he rose to be director of the Office of Asian Pacific and Latin American Analysis. President-Elect He later managed the staff that produced the Presidential Shelly Church Daily Briefings, and was President George W. Bush's briefer during the 9/11 attacks. He held a senior overseas position Vice President Melvin C. Short Jr. from 2003 to 2006, after which he served as the CIA's first associate deputy director until 2008. In 2008, Mr. Morell was appointed Head of Past President CIA's Directorate of Intelligence, with overall responsibility for intelligence William F. Allyn analysis.
Secretary In May 2010, Mr. Morell was sworn in as deputy director of the CIA. During this John F. Johnson period Mr. Morell was one of the CIA's lead players in the search for Osama bin Laden. He became acting director in 2011 when Leon Panetta was moved from Treasurer the CIA to the Department of Defense, and in November 2012 Mr. Morell again Edwin J. Stedem Jr. became acting director when David Petraeus resigned suddenly. He retired from the CIA in September 2013, and joined the Harvard Kennedy School's Belfast Center for Science and International Affairs as a senior fellow. He is also a DIRECTORS member of the Board of Directors of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and he is Counselor to Beacon Global Strategies, a Washington, D.C. based national security consulting firm.
