Scholarship Information The Giles Foreman Centre for Acting ! Advanced Professional-Intensive Programme Scholarship! ! The Giles Foreman Centre for Acting is delighted to announce the return of their annual half- scholarship, ofering one actor or actor/director a subsidised place on the 16-month intensive Post-Graduate-Equivalent Actor or Actor-Director Programme, and training from some of the !world’s leading acting coaches, which can be applied for via an online submission process. Actors and actor/directors are invited to submit a one-minute long video audition piece; a shortlist [maximum of 10] will be invited to an audition-day in London with Giles Foreman. The person chosen will earn a scholarship granting them a place on the postgraduate course for 50% of !the standard fee, worth over £5,750, and access to some of the finest acting training available. The Giles Foreman Centre for Acting is a privately-run studio based in Dean Street, Soho in London’s West End, with bases in Paris, Zurich, Luxembourg and - in 2016 - joined by New York. The studio actively seeks to open up its training to all, and despite being a self-funded institution, !is exploring ways to reach out to talent irrespective of the financial or social background. It was set up by Giles Foreman, one of the foremost acting coaches who taught for many years at the original Drama Centre London, where many of today’s leading actors trained such as Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, Ruta Gedmintas (Che, Heroes) and Santiago Cabreras (Borgias). Giles is supported by Christopher Fettes, co-founder of Drama Centre who has trained actors including Colin Firth, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Simon Callow, !and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Richard Listor was the recipient of the 2013 award and said: “Being ofered the Giles Foreman scholarship was massive. Before, I had all but written of the idea of post-graduate actor training as something entirely inaccessible to me. Now I’ve had the opportunity to train with fantastic teachers, to get equipped and !get prepared for life as a professional actor.” ! Richard Listor & Richard Mason in ‘Phoenician Women’ On the scholarship, Giles Foreman said: “The scholarship has been very successful, and we’re ofering the same opportunity every year in order to reach out to young actors, irrespective of their personal circumstance or location. Whilst we’re a self-funded institution competing in challenging times, we’re aware that incredibly talented actors slip through the net due to their personal !means. We hope that the scholarship can enable those from all types of backgrounds to apply.” The acting philosophy of the Giles Foreman Centre for Acting is broadly in line with that of the original Drama Centre London under Christopher Fettes, Yat Malmgren and Reuven Adiv: a teaching team and school that trained some of the great UK actors of our generation – Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Helen McRory, Anne Marie Duf, Paul Bettany, Lambert Wilson, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, Santiago Cabrera, Geraldine James, Frances de la Tour – to name but a few. But for my money, the villain I’d hate to be locked in a dark room with is Tilikum the Whale from the terrifying documentary “Blackfish.” It used to be a dream to go to SeaWorld, but now, it’s a nightmare. 16. ‘Upstream Color’ Even the people who like and defend this movie seem to have no idea what it all means. I don’t need a movie to answer all my questions, or for my cinematic narratives to be tied up with a bow, but this movie doesn’t make a lick of sense and Shane Carruth’s refusal to explain it is that much more frustrating. This self-distributed art house sen- sation is more “art” than “movie.” 17. ‘World War Z’ Remember when the press wrote off this zombie epic 24. ‘American Hustle’ great about his nearly wordless performance? Stick me on a sight unseen, months before its release? Well guess what - I’ll bet most of you didn’t see Melissa Leo’s villainy in boat all alone in the Indian Ocean and I could deliver an it was actually pretty damn good.

Our Advanced course is equivalent in level to Post Graduate study. However, the training is designed for those creative individuals - from any background - who have the capacity, ability and motivation to enter the Industry. The programme involves 30+ hours of intensive classes and rehearsal exercises per week, taught by top- level specialist coaches, each with extensive professional experience. There are in-house showings throughout the course, and plays are presented to the public and Industry during the final two terms. During the final term, as well as advanced-level classes, students may join the Spotlight Casting Graduate scheme; scenes are filmed for showreel, there are Industry events, and a range of further performance opportunities. These continue after the conclusion of the formal training. This famous dress was personally donated to the current owners, Monsieur and Madame Lapierre by Hubert de Givenchy, who designed Hepburn’s wardrobe for the film. It has an estimate of £50,000-70,000 and is being auctioned on behalf of the charity City of Joy Aid, which benefits the under-privileged in India. Other Hepburn highlights include an exquisite black Givenchy two-piece cocktail suit from the 1963 film Charade (estimate £8,000-12,000) which is as wearable today as it was then, an original costume design by Edith Head for Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina, 1954, (estimate £3,000-5,000) and a selection of original cinema posters, photographs and autograph material associated with the films Hepburn starred in (estimates start at £200).

    TRANSCRIPT A PINEWOOD DIALOGUE WITH SIDNEY LUMET Sidney Lumet’s critically acclaimed 2007 film Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, a dark family comedy and crime drama, was the latest triumph in a remarkable career as a film director that began 50 years earlier with 12 Angry Men and includes such classics as Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, and Network. This tribute evening included remarks by the three stars of Before the Devil Knows Your Dead, Ethan Hawke, Marissa Tomei, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, and a lively conversation with Lumet about his many collaborations with great actors and his approach to filmmaking.
