Founded in 1858 as a gold mining camp, Denver is located at the base of the majestic Rocky Mountains, 5,280 feet (1,609 meters) above sea level – exactly one mile high. Denver offers urban adventures for all ages, spring, summer, fall or winter. Explore The Mile High City without ever needing a car. Getting into the city center is easy with direct rail service from Denver International Airport to Denver Union Station. Arrival and transfer to downtown Denver hotel on own. Transfer to downtown Denver via the public train connection from Denver International Airport to Denver’s Union Station. Train between Denver International Airport and Denver Union Station has six stops in between and will take about 37 minutes to get from the airport to downtown at a cost of $10.50 each way. Trains depart every 15 minutes 4:15am-6:30pm and every 30 minutes 6:30pm-1:30am. In the airport the train entrance is located by the Westin Denver International Airport Hotel. Tickets can be purchased on rail line platforms at ticket vending machines. Other options for transfer from Denver International Airport to downtown Denver include shuttle vans, taxis, Uber & Lyft. Walking tour of downtown. 16th Street Pedestrian Mall: Built in 1982, the 16th Street Mall is a mile-long pedestrian promenade that runs through the center of downtown and is lined with outdoor cafes, flower baskets and retail shops. Free shuttle buses cruise the Mall stopping at every intersection so it’s easy to cover a lot of ground in a short period of time. Denver Union Station, which has undergone a massive restoration and re-development that has made it an exciting place in the heart of downtown. The 1881 Beaux Arts station is now a hub for transportation, dining, shopping and entertainment with the boutique Crawford Hotel, chef-owned restaurants, coffee shop, ice cream parlor, local one-of-a-kind shops, a cocktail lounge called Cooper Lounge and The Terminal Bar beer hall. History Colorado Center: The History Colorado Center's hands-on and high-tech exhibits take you back in time, connecting what was to what's next. Denver Art Museum: Denver Art Museum's Frederic C. Hamilton Building is an architectural work of art. Designed by Daniel Libeskind, it will change the way you experience art and architecture. Explore the museum's extensive art collections & world-class exhibitions. The gift shop offers a unique assortment of art-inspired products including jewelry, home goods, books, art activity kits for kids, and other delightfully creative gifts. Walk by: Clyfford Still Museum: The museum showcases the work of Clyfford Still, considered one of the most important painters of the 20th century and among the first generation of Abstract Expressionist artists. The museum was founded to promote the late artist's work and legacy. Still's estate - 2,400 artworks - had been sealed off from the public since 1980. Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art: The museum’s new building opened in March 2018, featuring Vance Kirkland's original 1910–1911 studio & art school building. Home to three major collections: paintings by namesake artist Vance Kirkland, fine and decorative art by other Colorado and regional artists and international decorative art. Meet the car and transfer to Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre A MUST SEE! Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a naturally formed, world-famous outdoor music venue just 30 minutes west of Denver and is the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world. The Visitor Center features interactive educational displays, a short film documentary on the geologic and musical history, a Performers’ Hall of Fame and delicious food at Ship Rock Grille. Red Rocks is recognized for its star- studded concert roster, natural acoustics and ambience, as well as its awe-inspiring hiking and biking trails and the Colorado Music Hall of Fame.
