Frick Award Online Balloting Begins Tomorrow and Continues Through Sept. 30 OAKLAND, Calif. – No baseball broadcaster was more decisive—or distinctive—in the big moment than the Oakland A’s late, great Bill King. Now, it’s time for his legions of ardent supporters to be just as decisive in voting him into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Starting tomorrow, fans of the legendary A’s announcer can cast their online ballot for a man who is generally regarded as the greatest broadcaster in Bay Area history when the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s Facebook site is activated for 2012 Ford C. Following his death, the A’s permanently named their Coliseum broadcast facilities the “Bill King Broadcast Booth” after the team’s revered former voice. Online voting for fan selections for the award will begin at 7 a.m. PDT tomorrow, Sept. 1, at the Hall of Fame’s Facebook site, www.facebook.com/baseballhall, and conclude at 2 p.m. PDT Sept. 30. The top three fan selections from votes tallied at the site during September will appear on the final 10-name ballot for the award. -

Bill Vaughn's Incredible Butt-Kicking Machine
Before During Bill Vaughn’s Incredible Butt-Kicking Machine While I try to get my body in shape for sport by stretching and running, followed by a nice Bombay martini for the heart, I discovered that the best way to prepare my mind for competition is the Incredible Butt- Kicking Machine (patent pending). On the day before a tennis match, for example, I’ll slip on my Butt-Kicker, crank the kicks-per-minute gauge to a leisurely four or five, and go about my business with a regular reminder of what I have to do to whip the guy on the other side of the net. It’s a sort of note-to-self, without the relentless monky-business of putting up sticky-backs all over the place. The Hunger Artistes 7 The Hunger Artistes It is the life-affirming genius of baseball that the short can pummel the tall, the rotund can make fools of the sleek, and no matter how far down you find yourself in the bottom of the ninth you can always pull out a miracle. But it’s the mathematical potential for a single game to last forever, in a suspended world where no clock rules the day, that aligns baseball as much with the dead as the living. And so one tempestuous afternoon in May it seemed right and proper that we should spend three hours at Chicago’s Wrigley Field, home of the much-loved Cubs, then drive through twenty miles of urban wasteland to a vast necropolis called St. Mary’s Cemetery in order to search among the graves for a former midget named Eddie Gaedel. -

Robichaux coached 29 All-Americans, five Academic All-Americans, 90 All-Sun Belt players and 55 All-Louisiana players in his 25 years with the Cajuns. During that time, he coached six Sun Belt Pitchers of the Year, two Sun Belt Players of the Year, two Sun Belt Newcomers of the Year, three Sun Belt Freshmen of the Year, three All-Louisiana Pitchers of the Year, one All-Louisiana Player of the Year and five All-Louisiana Newcomers of the Year. Robichaux took Louisiana to its only College World Series appearance in 2000 and won over 1,000 career games. Yet, that’s not how Robichaux will be remembered. He will be remembered and honored as someone who left behind a legacy of servant leadership and compassion that extended beyond the baseball diamond and into the lives of the thousands of student- athletes and staff he impacted during his career. Coach Robe’s contributions to the University and his impact left on others will not be forgotten. 36 1 WELCOME INTERVIEW AVAILABILITY The Louisiana Athletic Communications Office Head coach Matt Deggs is available at his weekly appreciates your interest in Louisiana Baseball media presss conference and by appointment in and looks forward to assisting you during the the mornings. Tennessee Has a Storied Tradition of Great Players and Great Teams
PMRphoto.com PMRphoto.com Tennessee has a storied tradition of great players and great teams. I am very excited about the opportunity we have here, and I hope you are too. Since becoming part of the Tennessee family in December, I have been amazed at the energy and enthusiasm of our fans. I can’t wait to experience having more than 100,000 of you cheering our team on at one of the greatest venues in college football during our eight home games this fall. When I took this job, I set out to hire the best coaches in America, and I think we have assembled a group of coaches that are unrivaled anywhere in the country. As a staff, we have a total of 35 years NFL coaching experience, 118 years of collegiate coaching experience, 84 years of coaching experience at BCS conference schools and 32 years of coaching experience in the SEC. Those involved in our program have won 13 national titles, 36 conference titles and 48 bowl games, not to mention a Super Bowl. My staff and I are committed to recruiting the best student-athletes in the country to build on UT’s outstanding history. Our first recruiting class ranked in the top 10 nationally and included the No. 1 rated player in the nation. We continue to work tirelessly at bringing the top players to Knoxville. We want the 2009 team and all of our future teams to be disciplined and accountable in all areas of life. Our progress can already be seen in the way our players are handling their workouts and the level of dedication they are bringing to putting Tennessee football back on top. -

The 27-year-old recorded the best start of his career Wednesday against Washington. Facing the team that drafted him, he permitted just one hit and one walk in seven scoreless innings. Had he remained on schedule, Meyer would have next started Wednesday in Cleveland. Because of their recent off days, the Angels do not need to replace him on their roster until Saturday in Toronto. When the Angels acquired Meyer from Minnesota on Aug. 1 last year, he was recovering from a shoulder injury that had forced him to miss most of the season. -
