The new Internet platform bauhaus!"".de provides information about current events, news and major landmarks on the way to the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus in !"#$. The online portal also presents for the first time the visual design chosen for publicizing the Bauhaus centenary. The first programmes initiated by the Bauhaus !"#$ Association and its partners will be starting this year.

The year !"#$ is the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus, the twentieth century’s most important college of architecture, design and art. The Bauhaus centenary is going to be celebrated with numerous events, exhibitions and campaigns aimed at a wide public in a large number of locations, as a nationwide event of international significance. It is being organized by the three Bauhaus institutions that hold collections, in collaboration with the Bauhaus !"#$ Association, a grouping including various federal states and the Federal Government. In connection with preparations for the Bauhaus centenary, the Board of Trustees of the Bauhaus !"#$ Association met on !" January !#"$ in Berlin. At the meeting, the Board of Trustees gave its approval to the opening of the centenary web site, bauhaus!"".de. The Minister of State for Culture, Monika Grütters, said: ‘The Bauhaus is inspiring! Nearly !"" years after it was founded, the Bauhaus is still fresh in people’s minds all over the world due to the novelty of its thinking, design work, and architecture. The online portal will make an indispensable contribution to inviting the whole world to Germany to take part in the centenary in !"#$ and to celebrate the Bauhaus together.’ With its new Internet presence and a photo campaign called ‘The World Sees Bauhaus’, the Bauhaus !"#$ Association is providing an initial overview of the planned centenary activities and is inviting people to come from all over the world to discover the Bauhaus and its influence. ‘The Bauhaus is still an inspiring and moving force today. The centenary will make the varied aspects of its historical influence and its current relevance visible and will bring them to life for a wide audience, both nationally and internationally,’ commented Tim Renner, Berlin’s State Secretary for Cultural Matters, chair of the Bauhaus Association during !"#$, on the start of the Internet site. ‘The Bauhaus !"#$ Association is not only arranging a series of special events about the Bauhaus, but is also setting up the structures needed for centenary celebrations that people will be able to take part in and help to shape, both in Germany and abroad. The bauhaus!"".de portal is making a vital contribution to this.’ The editorial content provided on bauhaus!"".de will expand continually right up to #"!$. The site already includes a calendar in which institutions and campaigns from Germany and all over the world can register their current events on topics involving the Bauhaus and modernism.

‘I’m delighted that we are already able in !"#$ to present the wide-ranging influence of the Bauhaus and the venues for the nationwide centenary celebrations in numerous locations,’ said Dr. Babette Winter, Thuringia’s Secretary of State for Culture, who took over the chair of the Bauhaus Association for !"#$. Weimar in Thuringia is also the home of the ‘Bauhaus Centenary’ office, which is immediately starting its work as the central coordinating point for the Bauhaus centenary and will be based there up to !"!". In !"#$, the chair of the Bauhaus Association will be passing to the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The state’s Minister of Culture, Stephan Dorgerloh, at whose invitation the Bauhaus Association was originally founded in Dessau-Rosslau on ! November "#$", said he was pleased with the growth of interest in the Bauhaus and the increase in the Association’s membership organizations. ‘The collaborations are now bearing fruit and the !"#$ centenary celebrations are continuing to take shape.’ The growth of the Bauhaus !"#$ Association is also continuing: the federal states of Saxony and North Rhine–

Westphalia also joined in the summer of !"#$. Preparations are also being made for other federal states to become members as well.

The launch of the Internet site also unveiled for the first time the visual design chosen for the Bauhaus !"#$ centenary. The central element is the stylized number ‘#""’ – a big shape for a big event. The graphic appearance was conceived and designed on behalf of the Bauhaus !"#$ Association by the Stan Hema agency in Berlin. Their approach proved a convincing winner during the selection procedure. In addition to the graphic appearance, the programme and sponsorship structure for the Bauhaus centenary are also taking shape. The landmarks for the centenary include an international touring exhibition, !" exhibitions in the new federal states, an inaugural festival and an educational programme running over several years called ‘Bauhaus Agents,’ which the Federal Cultural Foundation is initiating in the autumn of !"#$ in collaboration with the three Bauhaus institutions that maintain collections – in Berlin, Weimar and Dessau.
