Previous meetings • The sides' only previous UEFA meetings came in the second round of the 1968/69 European Champion Clubs' Cup, Rinus Michels' Ajax beating Ignác Molnár's Fenerbahçe 2-0 home and away. • Fenerbahçe's record in 16 games against Dutch opponents is W4 D3 L9 (W3 D1 L4 in Istanbul – W1 D2 L5 in the Netherlands). • Ajax have won all eight of their previous matches against Turkish teams, scoring 21 goals and conceding just two. However, they have not met Süper Lig opponents since November 1993. Po nádherných zážitcích, které nám naši fotba- listé připravili v soubojích s italskou Neapolí, změří Viktoria sílu se slavným tureckým týmem Fenerbahce SK. Historie i přítomnost našeho soupeře z Istanbulu budí respekt, do souboje však jdeme se vztyčenou hlavou. Mohu vás ujistit, že nepodléháme chvále, která se na tým snesla po suverénním vyřazení druhého týmu italské Série A. Jsme si vědomi toho, že právě skromnost a poctivá koncentrace na každé utkání jsou základními předpoklady pro úspěch. Na druhou stranu cítíme, že jsme schopni se také v tomto měření sil poprat o postup. V dnešním úvodním dějství se navíc budeme moct opřít o vaši podporu. Z rozhodnutí Disciplinární komise Evropské fotbalové asociace se odvetný duel v Istanbulu bude hrát před uzavřeným stadionem. Přáli jsme si zažít vyhlášenou tureckou atmosféru, nicméně bezpečnostní důvody k tomuto kroku vedoucí naprosto respektujeme. Situace nás tak mrzí především vzhledem k fanouškům, kteří již podnikli kroky k cestě do Turecka. Věříme, že je tento nepříjemný zážitek neodradí v cestách na možné budoucí výjezdy Viktorie. Podpory našich příznivců na půdě soupeřů si velmi vážíme, také v hráčské kabině se fanoušci těší obrov- skému respektu. Nucenou absenci v Istanbulu si můžete vynahradit právě dnes. Vytvořili jste nám fantastickou kulisu během cesty základní skupinou, pomyslným vrcholem pak bylo únorové utkání s Neapolí. Jsem přesvěd- čen o tom, že také dnes na svá předchozí představení navážete. Atmosféru v Doosan Areně obdivuje celá republika a pro mě osobně je každý domácí zápas malým svátkem. Děkuji vám, že ani dnes v ochozech Štruncových sadů nechybíte.
