Criterion (iii): Considered as an integral part of the Memory of the World (UNESCO, 2001), the Plantinian Archives, including the business archives of the Officina, the books of commercial accounts and the correspondence with a number of world-renowned scholars and humanists, provide an outstanding testimony to a cultural tradition of the first importance. Criterion (iv): As an outstanding example of the relationship between the living environment of a family during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, the world of work and the world of commerce, the Plantin-Moretus Complex is of unrivalled Documentary value relating to significant periods of European history: the Renaissance, the Baroque era and Classicism. Criterion (vi): The Plantin-Moretus complex is tangibly associated with ideas, beliefs, technologies and literary and artistic works of outstanding universal significance. BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS The Plantin-Moretus Museum is a printing plant and publishing house dating from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Situated in Antwerp, one of the three leading cities of early European printing along with Paris and Venice, it is associated with the history of the invention and spread of typography. -

This happens no later than the year of its publication, 1657 (in spite of our title-page bearing falsely Born in Kortrijk in 1599, Joacob Vande Walle entered the Society the mention of 1656). Vereniging van Antwerpse Bibliofielen, Antwerpen 2007 Zie voor verantwoording: http://www.dbnl.org/tekst/_gul005200701_01/colofon.php © 2016 dbnl i.s.m. 7 [De Gulden Passer 2007] Barones Francine de Nave Van Officina Plantiniana tot unesco-Werelderfgoed Het ‘Complex Woning-Ateliers-Museum Plantin-Moretus’ te Antwerpen Op 15 juli 2005 werd de oude Officina Plantiniana als enige op wereldvlak nog volledig bewaarde drukkerij-uitgeverij met woning uit de zestiende-zeventiende eeuw door de vertegenwoordigers van 21 landen uit de vijf continenten (waaronder niet België), verenigd in het Comité van het Werelderfgoed van de UNESCO, te Durban in Zuid-Afrika verklaard tot UNESCO-Werelderfgoed. Op 17 juli 2005 werd deze culturele site met historisch monument én inclusief zijn patrimonium onder de noemer ‘Complex Woning-Ateliers-Museum Plantin-Moretus’ na een procedure van ruim negen jaar met de nieuwe status van cultureel site van uitzonderlijke universele waarde ingeschreven op de Lijst van het Werelderfgoed van de UNESCO. Deze datum is daarmee de belangrijkste in de geschiedenis van de Officina Plantiniana geworden na die van haar oprichting op 5 april 1555, toen Plantin zijn eerste drukkersprivilegie verkreeg van de Geheime Raad der Nederlanden, en die van haar verkoop aan de Stad Antwerpen en de Belgische Staat op 20 april 1876, toen de Officina Plantiniana voortaan de nieuwe toekomst van Museum Plantin-Moretus tegemoetging. De exclusieve Lijst van het Werelderfgoed van de UNESCO concretiseert de missie van de UNESCO1, te weten ‘de identificatie, bescherming en preservatie van cultureel en natuurlijk erfgoed van bijzondere waarde voor het mensdom en de wereld’.
