I represented the ABA’s Section on Environment, Energy, and Resources and that Section’s Marine Resources Committee on this ABA-wide working group to formulate the ABA’s position on, and recommendations for, U.S. ocean policy in light of the Pew Oceans Commission’s and the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy’s reports, to enable the ABA to lobby Congress for new legislation. • Generated initial chart comparing Commissions’ recommendations and President Bush’s December 2004 response. • One of two drafters of the ABA’s three resolutions, and the primary drafter of both the resolution on government coordination and structure and the resolution on an ecosystem-based national marine policy. • Drafted most of the accompanying reports for the two resolutions. • Acted as the coordinator for SEER’s response to the resolutions and reports. • Appeared in front of the ABA House of Delegates on August 8, 2005, to argue in favor of the first three resolutions, all of which were passed. • Assist in the ABA’s continuing lobbying efforts in Congress. • Prepared one-page briefing document for congresspersons on Ocean Policy for the 2007 “ABA Day” on Capitol Hill. • Helped prepare the ABA’s Summer 2008 comments on H.R. 21, the proposed National Oceans Policy Act.

I assisted PEER with its petitions to the Coral Reef Task Force and the FCC to ensure that companies protect coral reefs while laying offshore fiber-optic cables. In Fall 2000, I coordinated a student-researched response to NOAA's proposed rules respecting communications cables in National Marine Sanctuaries. In Fall 2001, I help PEER respond to proposed methods for calculating fees for laying cables.
