A less obvious antecedent that The Simpsons benefitted directly and indirectly from was Hanna-Barbera’s Wait ‘til Your Father Gets Home (NBC 1972–1974). This was an attempt to exploit the ratings successes of Norman Lear’s stable of grittier 1970s’ US sitcoms, but as a stepping stone it is entirely noteworthy through its prioritisation of the suburban narrative over the fantastical (i.e., shows like The Flintstones , The Jetsons et al.). 2 . Nelvana was renowned for producing well-regarded production-line chil- dren’s animation throughout the 1980s. It was extended from the 1960s studio Laff-Arts, and formed in 1971 by Michael Hirsh, Patrick Loubert and Clive Smith. Its success was built on a portfolio of highly commercial TV animated work that did not conform to a ‘house-style’ and allowed for more creative practice in television and feature projects (Mazurkewich, 1999, pp. 104–115). 3 . The NBC US version recast Feeble with the voice of The Simpsons regular Hank Azaria, and the emphasis shifted to an American living in England. INTRODUCTION The above-captioned petition was filed on September 3, 1999 by HILARIO MIRAVALLES (hereinafter "Petitioner" or “MIRAVALLES”), alleging that ARTISTS, INC., operated by Vice President, Thad Weinlein, (hereinafter “Respondent” or “Weinlein”), acted as an unlicensed talent agency in violation of Labor Code §1700.51. Petitioner seeks a determination from the Labor Commissioner voiding a 1997 written agreement ab initio, and seeks disgorgement of all consideration collected by respondent stemming from this agreement. 1 All statutory citations will refer to the California Labor Code unless otherwise specified. Respondent was served with a copy of the petition on September 28, 1999. Respondent filed his answer with this agency on October 29, 1999, defending on the position that the respondent did not act an agent, but rather acted as an employer and is therefore not subject to the jurisdiction of the Labor Commissioner. A hearing was scheduled and commenced before the undersigned attorney, specially designated by the Labor Commissioner to hear this matter on March 31, 2000, in Los Angeles, California. Don De Lillo, Underworld1 Il genere “YouTube Poop” (YTP) raccoglie sotto il suo nome una massa piuttosto estesa di video i quali riciclano ed elaborano, rimontandoli, specifi ci contenuti della cultura pop, pescati di solito fra prodotti mediali considerati per diversi motivi “di scarto”. La nascita della YTP viene datata al 27 novembre 2006, quando il pooper SuperYoshi carica su YouTube il video “I’D SAY HE’S HOT ON OUR TAIL”2. Daniel Bunting Street Performers on the Information Superhighway: A Secondary Liability Theory for Mediashare on Twitch I. INTRODUCTION Perhaps no industry has had more trouble coping with emerging technologies than the music industry. In a field once dominated by sales of records and CDs, the ease with which the Internet allows potential customers to access files free of cost has fundamentally altered the relationship between musicians and consumers. In some cases, musicians can ally themselves with emergent technology and seek some share of the benefits. The industry has done a marvelous job doing this with YouTube, for example. 1 In other cases, such as Napster, the music industry has had to seek legal remedies to protect its interests. 2 Every time a new technology potentially infringes the rights of copyright holders, those copyright holders have a spectrum of legal and business options to deal with the threat; the above examples represent the poles of this spectrum. The decision on how to proceed with any given technology is driven by a variety of legal and business considerations including what the legal options actually are, how much economic benefit there is to any one option, and whether that solution is going to be a permanent fix to a problem to name only a few. This paper deals with this question of copyright holders’ options in the context of StreamLabs’ mediashare program for use on the multimedia platform Twitch. The first part of this analysis breaks down the parties involved and explain the role they play in the analysis. It also aims to express how many forms of national mediation, professional negotiation and audience reception deeply modify, and re-shape the TV product. To tackle the manifold facets of this case, four aspects will be analyzed: (trans)national distribution; adaptation and dubbing; global/local stardom; reception and cultural impact. Over a decade, the Italian edition and distribution of the show have changed, together with the national media landscape and its audiences. Keywords: Italian television, media industries, reception studies, dubbing, stardom, celebrity 1 Introduction RuPaul’s Drag Race is a TV show, a reality competition with drag queen contestants performing and being evaluated by expert judges, which has reached the eleventh season and given birth to several extensions and spinoffs. In the US, the program has long been broadcast on linear channel Logo (2009-2016), and has then moved to VH1 (2017-), which is part of the same company, Viacom.
