The National Concert Hall hosts 90th anniversary screening of ‘The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’ as part of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2011 with music performed live by the RTÉ concert Orchestra

On Saturday 26 February 2011, 8pm The National Concert Hall will play host to the 90th anniversary special screening of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse with ’ score performed by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and conducted by David Brophy. The score is based on Liszt’s Fantasia Sonata Après un Lecture de Dante. Presented by the National Concert Hall, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2011, the silent movie starring and directed by became the top grossing film of 1921 and went on to become the 6th best grossing silent movie of all time. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse was described on release as ‘an epic tale of surging passion.’ And epic it is. Based on the novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez published in 1916, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, was adapted into film by screenwriter , who held a major belief in spiritualism and the Book of Revelation, and was determined to turn Ilbanez’s novel into a film. It premiered in New York to great critical acclaim, turning Valentino into a superstar and solidifying Dublin-born Rex Ingram's position as one of the most respected and most commercially successful filmmakers of the 1920s. Ingram salvaged the fortunes of Metro which later became a pillar of Metro-Goldwyn –Mayer. The highly anticipated 9th Jameson Dublin International Film Festival will once again celebrate the best in Irish and International cinema on the capital’s screens from 17th - 27th February 2011.
