Directory of Local Nonprofit Organizations Directory of Local Nonprofit Organizations Information for this list of organizations has been taken from many sources, including the Guidestar online database (at www.guidestar.org), the United Way of Greater High Point, the High Point Chamber of Commerce, various telephone directories, and the websites of the organizations themselves. Every effort was made to contact the organizations in the directory to ensure the information listed is correct and up to date. The names of organizations that updated their listing for the 2013 edition have been italicized. The names of organizations newly added to the directory this year are marked with a star ( ). Churches, other places of worship, and organizations whose missions are primarily religious are not included in this directory – they are listed in the High Point Public Library’s Institutions of Faith directory. Some charitable ministries serving social roles are, however, included in this directory. Some organizations on this list may be outside of High Point. Organizations based in Greensboro, Archdale, Jamestown, and Trinity have been invited to participate for this edition because they serve citizens in the High Point area. All different kinds of organizations with nonprofit status are represented in this directory. Donations to these organizations may or may not be tax-deductible, depending on the type of nonprofit status of the organization.     PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts of America) has long been respected as an organization that helps mold young people into responsible, conscientious adults; and WHEREAS, the rank of Eagle Scout is considered to be the pinnacle of achievement within the organization, with the first class of Eagles being recognized in 1912; and WHEREAS, in order to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must be actively involved in the troop’s leadership; demonstrate that he or she lives by the principles of trust, loyalty, duty, obedience, helpfulness and morality as stated in the Scout Oath and Scout Law; earn at least 21 merit badges; plan, develop and lead others in completing a service project; and successfully complete a review by an Eagle Scout board; and WHEREAS, Stewart Chipman is a member of Scouts BSA Troop 600; and WHEREAS, for his service project, Stewart designed and led construction of a flag collection and retirement center, which includes a collection box, seating, landscaping, and a concrete area with fire pit at Oak Ridge Town Park, that will provide a site where United States flags can be retired properly; and WHEREAS, in so doing, Stewart has left behind a gift to the citizens of the Oak Ridge community that will teach them how to retire U.S. flags in an appropriate and respectful manner; and WHEREAS, Stewart’s project was awarded the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year for the Old North State Council. Looking back on our roles as your national chief and vice chief during this dynamic year, we are still in awe of the incredible opportunity we were afforded. The year will be a memorable chapter in our Brotherhood’s story, centered on laying the foundation for our organization’s 100th anniversary and the next century of cheerful service. For example, ArrowTour: Our National Centennial Experience was fully developed by young Arrowmen across the country and is poised to be a vibrant component of our centennial celebrations in the summer of 2015. This past year also saw the development and implementation of the Arrowman Service and the Centurion Awards; as well as the dedication of the Summit Circle at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, the new home for the reconstructed Treasure Island ceremony site.
