She has been through a lot in her 30 years of life, but she holds onto the fact that she’s made it “through”. 4 From food shortage to transportation barriers, When Tiffany heard about the Family Success Tiffany learned at a young age how to make Center, she was excited to sign up. “I thought, it through the struggle of the day, one day at finally, there’s going to be a place that can a time. Growing up as an only child in her mother’s home, Tiffany had to learn how to overcome challenges quickly. She and her mother lived in poverty and Tiffany had to adapt to many environments. “I had a hard time pretending to be who I wasn’t, but that was the only way I could get along with everybody.” Tiffany dealt Tiffany with fellow graduates of the Goodwill Steps to with social, economic and racial divides. In 1989, on his way from school, he flipped his car three times, was thrown 85 feet, and recovered in the hospital for 45 days. 6 The first night of Jerry’s hospital stay, he received 11 blood transfusions, provided by the American Red Cross to keep him alive. “If not for the help of the American Red Cross and United Way, I would not have received the 11 blood fusions that first night to keep me alive. I truly would have never met my wife, had my children, or been lucky enough to work for such a great company that helps with the community everyday. Everybody’s heard the saying ‘Enjoy your life. You can go out tomorrow and get hit by a bus’. I am living proof that it really has nothing to do with the bus. That ‘bus’ might be bad news at the doctor, bad news at the office, bad news at your banker. Whatever that bad news may be, United Way has been helping families address issues for over 93 years.” United Way of Greater Greensboro is grateful for Jerry’s recovery, personal and professionally success, and his understanding of how his Photos from VF’s fun activities during the company’s annual annual donation impacts the Greater Greensboro United Way campaign community.
