CNN anchor to moderate VBA debate of Senate candidates Kaine, Allen face off with chief political correspondent Candy Crowley on July 21

RICHMOND, VA (July 12, 2012) – Candy Crowley of CNN will moderate a debate at The Bar Association’s statewide meeting July 21. The debate will feature U.S. Senate candidates George Allen and .

An award-winning chief political correspondent, Crowley covers a range of stories, including presidential, congressional and gubernatorial races and major legislative developments on Capitol Hill. She also is anchor of “State of the Union with Candy Crowley,” a political hour of newsmaker interviews and analysis of the week’s most important issues. Crowley took the reins of the program, which airs on Sundays at 9 a.m. and noon ET, in February 2010.

As a member of the Peabody Award-winning “Best Political Team on Television,” Crowley played a pivotal role in CNN’s America Votes 2008 coverage. A graduate of what was then Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, she began her broadcast journalism career in Washington, D.C., as a newsroom assistant for Metromedia radio station WASH. She served as White House correspondent for The during the Reagan era and worked in the Washington bureau while at NBC-TV. Crowley joined CNN in 1987. Before her current role, Crowley served as a congressional correspondent for the cable network.

By sponsoring debates and inviting news media coverage, the nonpartisan VBA seeks to educate the public and its members about candidates’ views and to stimulate voter interest and participation in the election process.
