NORTHSIDE WIZARDS BASKETBALL 2020 SENIOR REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM COACH APPLICATIONS – QSL and SBL NORTHSIDE WIZARDS BASKETBALL 2020 SENIOR REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM COACH APPLICATIONS – QSL and SBL The Northside Wizards Senior Representative Program aspires to provide athletes with the best opportunity to reach their potential, not only as basketball players but as members of the Northside Wizards Basketball community. Our coaches are not just part of their individual team, they are members of a broader Northside Wizards Basketball community that includes players, coaches, managers, referees, parents, committee, staff and supporters, all dedicated towards helping our athletes and teams achieve their goals. This task requires the involvement of extremely dedicated volunteers, who will all become contributors to our on-court success. We are seeking persons that can contribute time, expertise and enthusiasm as a Head Coach in our senior program. Basketball Queensland (BQ) and the National Basketball League (NBL) recently announced a new partnership to bring NBL1 to Queensland in 2020. NBL1 will replace the existing Queensland Basketball League (QBL) to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Queensland. The information received so far indicates that there will be three tiers of Senior competition in 2020, being: Top Tier: NBL1 North (replaces QBL) Middle Tier: Queensland State League (New comp available to Associations south of Rockhampton) Entry-Level Tier: Southern Basketball League (SBL) NBL1 is intended to be an integrated 2nd tier competition to the NBL, with the finalists from NBL1 North (Queensland), NBL1 South (Victoria) and NBL1 East (NSW) competing in an end of season finals series to determine the ultimate NBL1 champions. The Queensland State League will be an intermediate level competition, allowing the recruitment of an import/marquee player. SBL is likely to remain largely unchanged in format. As recently announced at our annual awards evening, Northside Wizards has commenced working towards participating at the QBL level for 2021. With these changes taking place, it is our intention to field a men’s and women’s team in the NBL1 North competition in the 2021 season. To build towards this goal, we’re pleased to announce that in 2020 Northside Wizards will be nominating one male and one female team in the Queensland State League, and one male and one female team in the Southern Basketball League. This initiative will complement some other Northside Wizards achievements, including o Our Men’s and Women’s senior teams being crowned SBL champions; o The U14 boys winning a Bronze medal at the recent National Club Championships, only the second Queensland boys team to medal at these championships; o A junior development program producing outstanding young athletes with many participating in the state program and the teams highly competitive. o An amazing WizKidz program giving our future stars a great start o And most exciting of all, we anticipate commencing construction in the next few weeks on our very own 5-court centre at Zillmere, with an expected handover in June 2020. We are seeking suitably qualified, enthusiastic coaches to lead as a Head Coach in our senior program. Coaches are expected to comply with Northside Wizards and Basketball Qld policies, including but not limited to the Northside Wizards Values and the requirements outlined in the NWB Representative Coach Agreement. Please forward enquiries and applications to NWB General Manager Cathie Roberts via email [email protected]. Applications close Wednesday 4th December 2019. N.B.
