(BBI) during his 8+ years as General Manager. Trevor implemented significant positive change and with the support of the Member Clubs and BBI Board, has built Brisbane Basketball into the benchmark Association in Queensland. 2020 was an unprecedented year that offered challenges like no other. As a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic BBI was forced to close its doors for an extended period of the year. This saw all competitions abandoned including the inaugural NBL1 North Season. BBI took this opportunity to refresh the stadium, with the support of sponsor Hopscotch Construction, the portal structure housing courts 1 and 2 was painted, as were all internal walls and the grandstand. When BBI was able to open its doors and recommence competitions, it was apparent that basketball was the vehicle for our community to find the sense of normality during this unprecedented time. Competition numbers bounced back almost immediately with only the school-based teams experiencing a drop. Our participation numbers across holiday camps and Mini Hoops set new records for participation rates and in particular female participation. BBI’s ability to reopen its doors and recommence basketball activities could not have happened without the support of the Member clubs and their committees – to you, thank you. To the BBI staff including biosecurity, referees, scorebench, canteen and all the gameday volunteers, thank you for your dedication during a turbulent time, the support provided to get the sport back up and running was amazing. To our Sponsors; Hudor, The Wesley and Hopscotch Construction, thank you for your continued support during the pandemic. You are more than sponsors you are our community partners and without you we wouldn’t be able to have the impact in the community that we do. Finally, without the support of the Federal, State and Local Governments our sport would look extremely different today. With the establishment of new grants and the JobKeeper program community sport was able to avoid what would have been a very dire outcome. In closing the Board would like to again recognise the contribution that the volunteers, clubs and staff. We are looking forward to a new year which will hopefully see a return to a “normal” sporting landscape. Tony Cotter Hamish Cain President General Manager Brisbane Basketball Inc. Brisbane Basketball Inc. Page 4 of 17 Brisbane Basketball Referee’s Association Report Brisbane Basketball Referees Association in partnership with Brisbane Basketball (BBI) is one we have built on trust and a partnership of working together to bring the best product for customers. Brisbane Referees have always followed the guidelines of Basketball Queensland to meet the demands of all competitions BBI has under their umbrella. For the past year we have focused on developing out Education Programs for all our referees. Our juniors must meet the standards and demands of our SQJBC programs. Our Social structure is the lifeblood of our programs, and our referees must at all times meet the schedule set by BBI. The GBL is the best domestic competition in the state and BBRA has always maintained a high standard of officiating when selecting crews to officiate this competition. This year our focus has been on referee education across the three levels of competition. Eliza Bennett and her team has developed our junior program with a good recruitment drive with many new referees joining our Saturday program. We have six Referee Supervisors on Saturday to guide our three programs. White shirt to green and then Green to Gray shirt to improve the performance of our juniors we recently conducted a Mentoring program for our top panel of juniors. We invited Ipswich and Toowoomba referees to participate in what we believe is a product that will

The QBL and D League teams did us proud with all 4 teams almost managing to make finals if it wasn't for one or two results going against the Caps. A big Congratulations to the D League Brisbane Capitals Women who were able to return to the Grand Final this year only to have Ipswich scrape home with a 4 point win after the Caps trailed by as many 20 points at the half. We welcome Don McCarron to the BBI ranks as he replaces Dave Mitchell in the role of Female Development Manager for the upcoming 2012/2013 repre- sentative season. Dave did a tremendous job in keeping the female program moving forward and developing our junior female athletes. Our U14 Brisbane Capitals Gold Boys will travel to Perth in a month’s time to compete at the Australian U14 Boys Club Championships we wish Penny and the boys all the best for the Championships.

Jazz to host NBL’s Sydney Kings in Preseason Opener Utah to host Australian team in first game inside the newly renovated Vivint Smart Home Arena on Oct. 2 SALT LAKE CITY (July 31, 2017) – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball League (NBL) announced today the Utah Jazz will host the Sydney Kings on Oct. 2 at Vivint Smart Home Arena, marking the first time that NBL teams will travel to the U.S. to play against NBA Teams. “The Jazz are the most internationally diverse team in the NBA, including two players from Australia,” said Utah Jazz President Steve Starks. “Our franchise is excited to host an NBL team from Sydney in the first game played at our newly remodeled Vivint Smart Home Arena.” Joe Ingles and Danté Exum are the two current Aussies on the Jazz, after a record-tying eight Australian players appeared on 2016-17 opening night NBA rosters. Ingles began his professional career with the South Dragons of the NBL (2006-09) at the age of 18, earning 2006-07 NBL Rookie of the Year and winning an NBL championship in 2008-09. “This is massive for Australian basketball and an exciting opportunity for NBA and NBL players to compete together on the same floor,” said Ingles. “As an Aussie who began my career in the NBL and now entering my fourth season with Utah, I am very proud of the growth of the game in my home country and can’t wait for the Jazz and Salt Lake City to play host to Sydney this fall.” A native of Happy Valley, South Australia, Ingles re-signed with the Jazz to a multi-year contract on July 25.

  • Moves to Rename Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium to Lang Park in Legislation
    • OCTOBER 15 2016 Moves to rename Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium to Lang Park in legislation Felicity Caldwell The name "Lang Park" strikes fear into the hea1is of southerners and should be resunected, the LNP has argued. The Queensland Opposition plans to move an amendment to rename Suncorp Stadium from "Brisbane Stadium" to "Lang Park" in a bill before the House. Lang Park was established in 1914, named after John Dunmore Lang - a minister and politician - and renamed Suncorp Stadium in 1994. On Thursday night, as paii of debate on the Major Sp01is Facilities and Other Legislation Amendment Bill, member for Beaudesert Jon Krause said he would move an amendment to change the name to Lang Park within the legislation. Mr Krause said most Queenslanders would support the name change for the "spiritual home of mgby league in Queensland". "I know that most members of this House who have grown up knowing this stadium as Lang Park, and enjoying rngby league there over the last decades, would support this amendment being moved in consideration in detail," Mr Krause said. "If we took a straw poll of Queens landers I dare say most people would agree with that." Member for Glass House Andrew Powell, who grew up in NSW, said he remembered the fear the words "Lang Park" instilled in Cockroach supporters in Sydney at the time. "I think we should take any opp01iunity we have here in Queensland to ram that down any supp01ier of the NSW rngby league team or any other sporting code that uses that facility," Mr Powell said.
