It is recommended that the Board approve James Paska, a Hanover Park graduate in the United States Army, to speak to Hanover Park Physical Education classes during the month of February 2017 to discuss personal responsibilities as adolescent’s transition to adulthood.

It is recommended that the Board approve Devon Lee from Savannah College of Art and Design to speak to the Whippany Park Art classes during the month of February 2017 on art careers and portfolio development.

It is recommended that the Board approve John Terry, former Whippany Park Art Teacher, to speak to the Whippany Park AP 2D Design/Photography classes during the months of May or June 2017 to discuss his experience with photography and travel.

B. CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

17.383. Individual Instruction

It is recommended that the Board approve Student No. 5191145 to be placed on home instruction effective January 30, 2017.

It is recommended that the Board approve Student No. 5171080 to be placed on home instruction effective February 13, 2017.

It is recommended that the Board approve Student No. 5201340 to be placed on home instruction effective February 1, 2017. Instruction will be done through Brookfield Educational Services at a rate of $30.00 per hour for a maximum of ten hours per week.

17.384. Future Ready Pledge

It is recommended that the Board authorize the Superintendent of Schools to sign the Future Ready Pledge. The Future Ready Pledge, created by the federal government's Office of Educational Technology, affirms the district's commitment to work with students, educators, families, and members of the community to become Future Ready by engaging in a wide range of activities such as:

Fostering and leading a culture of digital learning within our schools Helping schools and families transition to high-speed connectivity Empowering educators through professional learning opportunities Accelerating progress toward universal access for all students to quality devices Providing access to quality digital content Offering digital tools to help students and families reach higher Mentoring other districts and helping them transition to digital learning

17.385. Authorization of Travel

It is recommended that in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:23B-1.1, the Board of Education approve the proposed travel and attendance of board members and/or staff members at the conferences, workshops, meetings etc. as detailed below.

Attendance at the specified functions promotes delivery of instruction or furthers efficient operation of the school district and is fiscally prudent. Unless indicated, travel and related expenses for the specified functions is expected to adhere to state guidelines established in Circular A-87 of the Office of Management and Budget. Where travel and related expenses for the indicated function is expected to exceed state travel guidelines, the Board finds the specified travel and related expenses to be both necessary and unavoidable.

Travel and related expenses for employees have been approved by the Superintendent of Schools.

D. STUDENT AFFAIRS

17.389. SAT Preparation Course Teachers

It is recommended that the Board approve teachers Anthony Castano, Nick Boccella, Michelle Clark and Gina Castrorao to instruct SAT preparation courses from February 2017 through May 2017 at Hanover Park High School. These evening courses will be offered to students at a rate of $50.00 per course with a minimum enrollment of 15 students. District teachers identified to teach these courses will be paid $600.00 per course. One course consists of three 2-hour sessions. There will be no cost to the district.

17.390. Whippany Park Science Expo

It is recommended that the Board approve to permit the Whippany Park Science Department to invite fifth graders from Salem Drive, Mountain View, and Bee Meadow Elementary Schools in Hanover Township to a Science Expo at Whippany Park High School. The Science Expo will be held in the Whippany Park cafeteria from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on May 19, 2017. The Advanced Placement Biology, Advanced Placement Environmental Science, and Conceptual Science students will be designing and developing inquiry, problem-based, and hands-on demonstrations of science concepts ranging from ecology, environmental, molecular, and biological sciences.

17.391. Hanover Park and Whippany Park Biology Competition

It is recommended that the Board approve Whippany Park students to participate in the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) on February 16, 2017 at Whippany Park High School. Hanover Park students will be participating in the USA Biology Competition (USABO) on February 17, 2017 at Hanover Park High School. USA Biology Olympiad is a national competition sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education. Depending on the student's performance on the USABO, the student could qualify for the International Biology Olympiad.

17.392. Park Swim Team Meet of Champions

It is recommended that the Board approve two Park Swim Team swimmers to attend the Meet of Champions March 3, 2017 through March 5, 2017 at Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey. The swimmers, coaches and bus driver will stay overnight March 3, 2017 and March 4, 2017. Coaches Ms. Catherine Mills and Mr. Greg Mills will chaperone the event. The district will be providing transportation.

17.393. Approval of Signage – Attachment No. 3

It is recommended that the Board approve the Hanover Park Between the Lines Club to display temporary signage for home softball events during the 2017 season. This is in accordance with Policy 6162 - Corporate Sponsorships. The signage will list families and businesses that donate to the Hanover Park Between the Lines Club as presented in Attachment No. 3.

17.394. Amendment of District Long Range Facilities Plan - Whippany Park High School Field Lighting Installation Project

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the board authorize the amendment of the current District Long Range Facilities Plan to include the Whippany Park High School Field Lighting Installation Project at Whippany Park High School.

17.395. Approval of Submission - Whippany Park High School Field Lighting Installation Project

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the board approve the submission of the Project Application to the New Jersey Department of Education for the Whippany Park High School Field Lighting Installation Project at Whippany Park High School.

17.396. Motion to Accept the Report of the Business Administrator/Board Secretary – Attachment No. 4

Be it resolved, that the Board of Education of the Hanover Park Regional High School District accept the Board Secretary Report pursuant to 18A:17-9 for the period ending and investments made during the month of December 31, 2016. Further, pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10(c)4 the Board of Education certifies that as of December 31, 2016, after review of the Secretary's monthly financial report (appropriate section) and upon consultation with the appropriate district officials, to the best of our knowledge no major account or fund has been over-expended in violation of N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10 and that sufficient funds are available to meet the district's financial obligations for Agenda February 8, 2017 Page 7 of 12 the remainder of the fiscal year and pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10(c)3, I certify that as of December 31, 2016 no budgetary line item account has been overexpended in violation of N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10 (Attachment No. 4).

17.404. Resolution Authorizing Contracts with Certain Approved State Contract Vendors for Boards of Educations Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-10a

WHEREAS, the Hanover Park Regional Board of Education, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:18A- 10a and N.J.A.C. 5:34-7.29(c), may by resolution and without advertising for bids, purchase any goods or services under the State of New Jersey Cooperative Purchasing Program for any State contracts entered into on behalf of the State by the Division of Purchase and Property in the Department of the Treasury; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover Park Regional Board of Education has the need on a timely basis to purchase goods or services utilizing State contracts; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover Park Regional Board of Education intends to enter into contracts with the attached Referenced State Contract Vendors through this resolution and properly executed contracts, which shall be subject to all the conditions applicable to the current State contracts; now, therefore, be it

BE IT RESOLVED, the Hanover Park Regional Board of Education authorizes the Purchasing Agent to purchase certain goods or services from those approved New Jersey State Contract Vendors on the attached list for the 2016-2017 school year pursuant to all conditions of the individual State contracts; and be it further

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hanover Park Regional Board Secretary as appropriate shall certify to the availability of sufficient funds prior to the expenditure of funds for such goods or services; and be it further

School districts must publicly report on acts of Violence and Vandalism and Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying committed within their schools. The first report (September 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016) will be presented by the Superintendent. An opportunity for public comment on the report will be provided.

A. ACHIEVEMENTS

1. Congratulations to Hanover Park Senior Kevin Roe who placed 2nd in the 2017 Morris County Clerk’s Manual Cover Design Contest. The Manual has been produced annually by the Clerk’s office since 1906 and contains valuable information regarding county and municipal services and departments, and is used extensively as a resource by government officials and residents.

2. Congratulations to Hanover Park Sophomore Emma Garibain who is a finalist in the Photographers Forum Contest. She is one of 100 finalists out of 13,000 entries and her photo will be in Photographer's Forum magazine this year.

3. Congratulations to the Park Dance Team who received 2nd place and won the “Show your Spirit Award” for best sportsmanship and respect for each other on the dance floor at . On January 15th the Park Dance Team performed at Wayne High School where the Varsity hip hop dance received 1st place at the 2017 Ameridance City Lights Championship. Lauren Solano received 1st place in the junior st solo category. Victoria Caracciolo received 1 place in the senior solo category.

4. Congratulations to Whippany Park Senior Andrew Se, Alto Saxophonist, and Senior Emily Kwon, Clarinetist, who were selected through competitive audition to All State Band. They will play at a concert at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

5. Congratulations to Whippany Park Junior Alex Maietta who took 3rd place in the Voices of Democracy essay contest.

6. Congratulations to Mrs. Souto’s Whippany Park International Business Practice Firm class for winning 3rd place in our Regional Oral Business Plan Presentation.

7. Congratulations to the Whippany Park Debate Team for making it to the semi-final round of the Morris County Tournament.
