Bo ZHANG Henan University Abstract: In today’s college English teaching, there are often many kinds of diffi- cult problems. Teachers generally attach importance to language education and despise traditional cultural education in the process of teaching. This kind of edu- cation is not conducive to the widespread of traditional culture in China, and hin- ders the inheritance and continuation of traditional culture. In the process of histor- ical development, China’s traditional culture has a long history. If the teaching of English affects the popularization of traditional culture in domestic colleges and universities, it will be a behavior of loss and gain. Therefore, this paper aims to study the heritage of traditional culture in higher English education, and analyzes the existing problems and solutions. But at present, there is still a phenomenon that the education of our country pays attention to foreign cultures and ignoring local cultures. In or- der to improve the incorrect values and ideas of the new generation of teenagers, it is necessary to integrate traditional culture into the teaching of higher English and allow students to continuously understand the unique advantages of the traditional culture in the process of learning English. This incorrect ideological guidance will bias students' values. 1. The Current Situation of Traditional Culture Communica- tion in Colleges and Universities and the Significance of Inte- grating Traditional Culture in English Teaching (1) Current situation of traditional culture communication in Colleges and Universities In today’s colleges and universities, traditional culture, as the essence of Chi- nese culture, has a certain penetration in the teaching of various majors. At present, teachers in many colleges and universities have higher education background, and they also have some research on traditional culture. However, in our country, peo- ple still lack a certain sense of traditional cultural heritage. For example, in the teaching process of higher English, because English is a foreign culture, it is diffi- cult to integrate relevant traditional culture into the teaching process, and even senior English teachers are difficult to properly integrate the two cultures. There- fore, in the English classroom teaching in Colleges and universities, the transmis- sion of traditional culture still has a big obstacle[1]. Many students have been learn- ing English since childhood, and English teachers and parents will instill a kind of thought that “English is more important than traditional culture”. Because students receive too much foreign culture and education when they are young, it is easy to worship foreign countries, and English teachers and some reports in China will de- liberately beautify foreign education and foreign life, which will cause students to be curious about everything abroad and compare it with the current situation at home, so as to think that foreign cultures and foreign things are better than domes- tic ones. This kind of thinking is very unhealthy. (2) The significance of integrating traditional culture in English teaching The infiltration of traditional culture in the process of college English teaching is of great significance to the improvement of college English teaching efficiency and teaching mode. Incorporating traditional culture into English teaching can not only promote traditional cultural virtues, but also improve students’ intercultural communication skills, and it can also urge English classroom teaching to better de- velop [2]. For students, it is a good learning experience to contact with Chinese tra- ditional culture in English teaching. It has a good role in promoting the efficiency of English teaching and the popularization of traditional culture, for students who do not forget their original intention in learning and can bring their love for tradi- 46 Analysis of Inheritance of Traditional Culture in Higher English Education tional culture into English learning. In English teaching, teachers can make a com- parison between Chinese and Western cultures, so that students can understand the profoundness and inclusiveness of Chinese culture, and teachers can make students understand the huge differences between Chinese and Western cultures and the characteristics of mutual inclusiveness through traditional festivals and customs. (3) Teaching differences under the educational background of Chinese and Western culture Different cultural backgrounds will have different influences on people, and people's impressions and ideas of different cultures are also different under differ- ent educational backgrounds. Usually people will adopt different learning methods to learn various cultures, which is the reason why the domestic English teaching effect is not high and students’ learning level is uneven. Because of different edu- cational backgrounds, people have different understandings and opinions on vari- ous cultures. Each country has its own cultural background and language. There- fore, in the learning process, students must have a deep understanding and corre- sponding analysis of the language and traditional culture of this country, so as to improve their understanding of this culture and strengthen their own learning expe- rience and cultural literacy [3]. At present, there is such a phenomenon in colleges and universities. In the process of teaching, teachers usually use western teaching methods to teach English, but they don’t pay attention to this problem that students accept the traditional Chinese education from childhood in our country, will be un- suitable for foreign cultures and new learning methods. Therefore, we can often see this phenomenon in our life. Even if a Chinese student has studied English for many years, it is also difficult for him to speak English fluently, which is closely related to the growing environment and education background of Chinese students. 2. Analysis of Inheritance of Traditional Culture in Higher English Education (1) Teachers should adopt the mode of group teaching to improve students’ interest in learning in the process of teaching In the process of teaching, teachers can improve students’ enthusiasm and in- terest in learning by setting up a group teaching mode, and effective learning inter- est groups can make students deepen their understanding of English culture and traditional culture in the process of communication. For example, teachers can use Chinese traditional instruments to compare with foreign instruments and appreciate music in the teaching process. Traditional Chinese instruments can be represented 47 Journal of International Education and Development Vol.3 No.3 2019 by guqin, erhu and so on, while western instruments can be represented by piano, violin, etc.[4] In teaching, teachers can ask students how they know and understand music works such as “two springs reflecting the moon”, “high mountains and flowing water”, “Moonlight music”. And let the students analyze them, so as to learn how to express these repertoires in English. From the popularization of this kind of knowledge, teachers can let students improve their understanding of tradi- tional culture and enhance their cognition of traditional culture. As time goes by, students will have a good feeling and interest in Chinese culture and learn English knowledge accordingly. (2) Teachers should respect students’ main position and improve their liter- ary literacy in Teaching In the process of teaching, teachers should always put the main position of students in the primary position of classroom teaching. Many teachers still adhere to the traditional teaching methods in teaching, so there is often the phenomenon that teachers often have endless knowledge explanation in the classroom, but stu- dents are drowsy below. This has a certain connection with the teachers’ teaching mode and the outmoded teaching idea. Therefore, teachers should enrich their own literary literacy and strengthen their own literary accomplishment. English teachers should also introduce some domestic traditional culture in English teaching, so that English knowledge and traditional culture can be well integrated together, so as to effectively improve students’ learning interest, and it can enable students to realize the importance of traditional culture and the advanced nature of English teaching. (3) Schools should carry out learning forum lectures and diversified teach- ing methods Schools should actively carry out corresponding lectures and develop diversi- fied teaching methods.
